No. 13 Baseball Prepares for Conference Play Against Ozarks

OKLAHOMA CITY. – No. 13 MACU Baseball will now be hosting this weekend due to weather circumstances, the Evangels will play on their home turf as the visiting team with SAC play kicking off Sunday at 3:00 p.m. against College of the Ozarks. MACU follows up with game two at 5:30 p.m. Sunday and wraps up the series Monday with a first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m.

  • Team Notes:
    • Mid-America Christian enters coming off a clean sweep in the doubleheader over York last Friday, the Evangels banged out 28 runs while holding York to just 10 pulling away with a 16-3 and 12-7 victory.
    • It was a phenomenal day of offense for MACU, both games featured a 5-for-5 performance making it now eight times an Evangel has recorded at least five hits in a game. Cristopher Munoz put up five hits on two doubles with four RBIs in game one, Brett Justice then delivered in game two, going 5-for-5 with three doubles and a triple.
    • Aside from the great days by Justice and Munoz, the Evangels cracked the NAIA's Top Five Moments of the Week on Jesse Ortega's pinch-hit grand slam that towered over the left field wall to extend the lead to 16-2 in game one.
    • Gabriel Dixon turned in a solid outing in game one, getting the victory with a season high of seven punchouts across five innings of work while allowing three runs (two earned) and six hits.
    • MACU enters with a 0-1 record against Ozarks, falling 4-3 in an eleven inning finish in the elimination game of the 2022 NCCAA World Series.

  • Team Notes:
    • College of the Ozarks steps in with a 5-3 record and winning three straight including a pair of wins over Central Baptist last Friday. The Bobcats have been managing to win games behind their staff, who carry a 4.66 ERA through 56 innings pitched. Offensively, COFO is hitting just .194 as a team with 38 runs scored in eight games.
    • A pair of senior bats have led the offense so far in Charlie Parker and Trey Riley. Parker leads the team in hits with eight, he also leads COFO in extra-base hits with four. Riley has been the team's main producer in the RBI column, logging seven through eight games, he is also the only Bobcat to leave the yard this season with a pair of homers.
    • Brody Baumann has been off to a hot start, tossing 15 innings with five runs (two earned) while fanning 12 and holding opponents to a .232 batting average. His last outing came in the 5-1 win over Central Baptist in which he went the distance, going seven-innings of one run ball allowing eight hits, a walk, and striking out six. George Reynolds is another hurler off too a strong start, he has yet to allow a run through 9.2 innings pitched. Reynolds enters this weekend with three appearances including a shutout in his one start in the 4-0 win over Evangel on Feb. 7.
    • This will officially be the first ever SAC matchup for the Bobcats as they entered the conference this season.
