GAME SUMMARY
  • Mid-America Christian put together an immediate threat in the top of the first as Kisbel Vizcaya started it off by drawing a walk before a Stormy Haynes bunt single and throwing error by the third baseman allowed both runners to advance to second and third with no outs. However, Montreat starting pitcher Victoria Alcantar got out of the jam by inducing a popout, a shallow flyout to left and a strikeout to end it.
  • The Cavaliers took advantage of their first scoring chance in the bottom of the first as Amayia Hernandez led off the frame with a double to left and two batters later came around to score on Maggie Knight's base hit to center with two outs to make it a 1-0 Montreat advantage.
  • The Evangels put together a massive response in the top of the second when Faith Kelley and Kayten Herman started it with a pair of singles before a one-out hit-by-pitch for Makenzie Thurman loaded the bases. With Vizcaya stepping to the plate, the senior infielder launched a go-ahead grand slam down the left field line to put MACU in-front, 4-1.
  • It was tough sledding for both teams from the plate as neither team was able to get a runner into scoring position until Amayia Hernandez hammered a leadoff solo shot over the left field fence to cut it to a 4-2 game.
  • The Evangels went to reliever Chloeaunna Madbull-Jim following the homer as the sophomore reliever retired six of the final seven batters to get her first career save as MACU held on for the 4-2 victory.
GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian scored its four runs on six hits while Montreat concluded the contest by scoring two runs on three hits and committed one error.
  • Kisbel Vizcaya led MACU's batting efforts as she slashed 1-for-2 with her homer resulting in four RBIs and a run scored. So far this season, Vizcaya is boasting a massive .778 slugging percentage as six of her 13 hits have went for extra bases.
  • As a result of Vizcaya's homer, all of MACU's runs in its wins in the NAIASB Tournament were a result of the long ball after Emylee Campbell hit a two-run jack in the Evangels' 2-0 win over No. 7 Columbia on Saturday.
  • Stormy Haynes was the only Evangel to finish with a multi-hit day as she went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles.
  • Faith Kelley and Kayten Herman also turned in solid days at the plate as both finished 1-for-3 with a run scored.
  • Isabel Ray earned her first win in the circle as a member of the Evangels as she finished the day allowing just two earned runs on three hits and two walks and struck out three over five-plus innings of work.
  • Chloeaunna Madbull-Jim also tallied the first save of the season for any MACU pitcher as she allowed no hits and a lone walk to go with three strikeouts in two innings of relief.
  • With the win, MACU finished the NAIASB Invitational with a 2-1 record while facing some of the best competition in the country as well as notching the winning result in the first ever meeting against Montreat.
UP NEXT
  • Mid-America Christian will have one more non-conference tournament before starting Sooner Athletic Conference play as the Evangels prepare to face Bethel (Kan.) and Haskell Indian Nations (Kan.) at the Hosea Bell Red Dirt Classic hosted by Langston at Devon Field on Feb. 28.
