GAME NOTES
  • Central Christian got on the board first in the top of the first, with first and third one-out, Braedon Ulrich grounded into a double play, however because Justice tagged first then fired to second it allowed Kurt Ippolito to cross the plate prior to the tagout at second, giving the Tigers an early 1-0 lead.
  • Mid-America Christian responded with a three-spot in the bottom half of the inning in which CCCK committed three errors. Cristopher Munoz and Brett Justice added RBI singles in the inning providing MACU with a 3-1 lead after one complete.
  • The Evangels strung together three straight singles in the bottom of the third by Justice, Payton Matthews and Carlos Medina, however they managed to push just one across after a sac fly to right by Gio Mendoza turned into a double play with right fielder James Perales gunning down Matthews at third trying to advance. Tigers starter Robert White then struck out Zach Stark to minimize the inning to just one run.
  • Taiga Sakuma and Noel McGarry-Doyle singled in the fourth, McGarry-Doyles single scored Sakuma who advanced on a stolen bag. D'Andre Gaines then walked setting up first and second with one out for Justice. With the runners in motion on the pitch, Justice grounded hard to second base, and the speedy McGarry-Doyle and Gaines both advanced two bases, allowing McGarry-Doyle to score and Gaines to chug into third on a dive.
  • In the top of the sixth Central Christian rallied for five runs including a game-tying three-run homer off the bat of Bradeon Ulrich.
  • Andrws Acosta got the call in relief in the top of the seventh and worked around a leadoff single getting Cooper Sanders to strikeout stranding Braden Young at third.
  • In the bottom of the seventh needing just one to win, after the first two were retired, Sakuma worked a two-out walk and then scored on a no-doubt towering shot over the left field wall off the bat of Munoz providing the Evangels with an 8-6 victory.
  • Mid-America Christian banged 13 hits, 12 of which were singles. Central Christian had eight hits and committed three errors. Both teams left a lot of meat on the bone, with MACU leaving ten on base compared to nine left on for CCCK.
  • MACU saw five starters record two hits, the bunch was led by Munoz and Justice. Munoz went 2-for-4 with a single and a homer driving in a pair.
  • Brett Justice was the only other Evangel with multiple runs driven in, he went 2-for-3 with a walk and scored a run.
  • Taiga Sakuma reached base four times, he went 2-for-3 with three runs and two walks. Sakuma also became the tenth MACU player to steal three bases in a game and the first since Andrew Enwiya accomplished the feat on Mar. 15, 2022 against Dallas Christian.
  • Giordany Mendoza and Payton Matthews both added a pair of singles, Mendoza tacked on a stolen base as well.
  • Noel McGarry-Doyle added an RBI single extending his hitting streak to nine games.

D'Andre Gaines on the first pitch he saw grounded to second plating Munoz and then scored on Brett Justice's blast to left extending the lead to 3-0.
  • Back-to-back walks to leadoff the third setup a second and third opportunity following a wild pitch by Nicholas Clayson, Gaines picked up his second RBI on a sac fly to right scoring Taiga Sakuma. Later in the frame with two outs, Munoz on third with Clayson working from the windup, broke for home prior to the delivery which stunned Clayson and forced him to balk, scoring Munoz and making it 5-0 in favor of the Evangels.
