GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian outhit Randall 15 to seven while outscoring them 19-9, the Evangels committed five errors while the Saints committed three of their own. MACU's 17 RBIs on the day was a season high and the most since 18 in the 18-1 win over Panhandle State on Mar. 22, 2024.
  • After Evangels starting pitcher Andrew Long struck out the side in the top of the first, Mid-America Christian jumped to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first behind three hits including a two-RBI double by Jonluke Hobdy, who then scored on Brett Justice's line drive stand-up double over Randall center fielder Garrett Jeffcoat's head.
  • Andrew Long continued to shove picking up four more strikeouts over two scoreless innings of work to carry a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the third.
  • Noel McGarry-Doyle and Brett Justice walked and executed a double-steal to perfection, setting up Payton Matthews to score them both on a laser to the left-center field gap to extend the MACU lead to 5-0. The Evangels pushed another across in the inning after Matthews swiped third, he then scored on a sacrifice fly to center off the bat of Carlos Medina to make it a 6-0 game.
  • Randall got on the board in the top of the fourth after a pickoff attempt by Ryan Smith got away from Dyson Kinnaman at second base allowing Raegan LaMance to score.
  • The Evangels responded with a four-spot in the bottom of the fourth on a pair of homers, Cristopher Munoz blasted a solo shot over the centerfield wall, and Matthews crushed a no-doubt homer to right for a three-run big fly to extend the lead to 10-1.
  • Both teams pushed across a run in the sixth with MACU scoring on a sac fly by Jonluke Hobdy to allow Noel McGarry-Doyle to cross the plate giving the Evangels a 11-2 advantage.
  • The seventh inning was filled with scoring on both sides, the Saints rallied for seven runs behind four hits and a couple MACU errors that allowed RU to creep back into it with an 11-9 lead for MACU.
  • In need of some insurance, MACU decided to do so plus more, scoring eight in the inning to come up with a 10-run rule to end the game after seven with a 19-9 win.
  • That eight run seventh for MACU included five walks and three hits that featured a bases clearing double by Hobdy and a two-run bomb by Matthews for his second homer of the contest. The Evangels wrapped it up on McGarry-Doyle being hit by a pitch to score Giordany Mendoza.
  • It was a phenomenal day for Hobdy and Matthews, the duo combined for 6-for-9 with four doubles, two homers, six runs and 13 runs batted in. Matthews became the first Evangel to have a multi-homer game of the 2025 campaign, his seven RBIs on the day fell just one shy of Yan Adames' record of eight on Feb. 20, 2020.
  • Noel McGarry-Doyle reached base safely five times all without recording a hit, he walked three times and was hit-by-a-pitch twice. He added on a pair of stolen bases as well.
  • Brett Justice, Carlos Medina and Zachary Stark all turned in a two-hit performance, it was the first time this season Stark has picked up a multi-hit game.
  • Eight of the nine MACU starters recorded a hit, MACU finished the day with 15.
  • Andrew Long led the staff today, he allowed just one baserunner without surrendering a hit or a walk, he struck out seven of the ten batters he faced.
  • Cristopher Munoz left the yard for the first time in an Evangels uniform, he finished the day 1-for-4 with two runs scored.
  • Despite a ten-run victory, Andrws Acosta still gets credited with a save due to the fact that he entered in the top of the seventh with the tying run at the plate, he faced only one batter but made quick work picking up a strikeout on three pitches to shut down the Saints rally.
UP NEXT
  • MACU heads back to Louisiana for the annual Cajun Collision where they will play four games against four different opponents with Friday's matchups including a 2:30 p.m. start against No. 4 LSU-Shreveport and a 6 p.m. first pitch against Dakota State. The Evangels will wrap up the tournament with an 11 a.m. game against Georgetown and a 2:30 p.m. start taking on Park.
