GAME SUMMARY
  • Mid-America Christian found itself down early when Oklahoma City put together a two-out rally in the top of the first. Two batters after Iliana Ashford drew a walk, Annaliese Rayburn hammered an RBI single that bounced off the top of the center field wall to score Iliana Ashford before Emersen Heron slipped a groundball single up the middle to plate Rayburn to give OCU the 2-0 advantage.
  • In the bottom of the second, senior center fielder Brooklyn Wilson injected some life into the MACU bats when she launched a line drive solo home run over the left field wall to cut the deficit in half at 2-1.
  • The Stars got the run back in the top of the third when Tara Hoehner led off the frame with a double down the left field line before eventually scoring on a Heron squeeze bunt back to the pitcher, setting the score to 3-1.
  • The Evangels put together a massive two-out rally of their own. With a runner at first and two outs, Kisbel Vizcaya was hit by a pitch and Stormy Haynes hit a single through the left side that was automatically granted when Rayburn was called for obstructing Herman trying to run to third, effectively loading the bases. In the ensuing at-bat, Emylee Campbell was hit by a pitch to bring in one run before Makenzie Thurman slapped a 2-RBI single to left that ultimately cleared the bases as the throw home sailed wide left, allowing Campbell to also score on the play and giving MACU the 5-3 lead.
  • OCU put together a major threat in the top of the fifth as OCU managed to load the bases on a pair of singles and a walk. However, with two away, Rally Radacy was called for leaning into a pitch over the plate to try and draw a hit-by-pitch as the batter's inference call kept it to a 5-3 ballgame.
  • The top of the order did some major damage for MACU in the sixth gain some insurance as back-to-back singles by Kisbel Vizcaya and Stormy Haynes set up Emylee Campbell with a screeching line drive triple to right that got past the outfielder, allowing both runners to score and extend the edge to 7-3.
  • MACU starting pitcher Isabel Ray refused to let OCU get back into the contest as she tossed three-up, three-down frames in the sixth and the seventh to secure the 7-3 victory.
GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian scored its seven runs on nine hits and committed one error while Oklahoma City tallied three runs on seven hits with two errors.
  • The win over the Stars was MACU's first since defeating OCU in the SAC Tournament on May 6, 2022 when Rachel Eggleston tossed a complete game victory while Aurelia Holguin hit a solo home run and Karlee Danielson scored the game-winner in the 2-1 victory.
  • Ever since her tough MACU debut where she gave up three runs in one-third of an inning against Tabor back on Feb. 7, Isabel Ray has lit it up in the circle, improving to 3-0 and tossing her second-straight complete game. Ray allowed just three earned runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out two over seven innings.
  • Emylee Campbell led the MACU batting efforts with three RBIs after slashing 1-for-2 with a triple and a pair of hit-by-pitches. With her eighth career three-bagger, Campbell moved alone into third on MACU's all-time career record book as she now sits only behind former teammates Mikaylee Allen (15, 2020-23) and Cailey Parsells (11, 2022-23).
  • Makenzie Thurman also notched a multiple RBI contest, finishing 1-for-3 with a two-RBI single while Brooklyn Wilson tallied her second home run of the season for the only other team RBI.
  • Stormy Haynes was an on-base machine for MACU, going 2-for-2 with a pair of singles and drew two walks and scored a pair of runs.
  • Kisbel Vizcaya also crossed home twice after slashing 2-for-3 and also reached on a hit-by-pitch.
GAME TWO
SCORE
  • Mid-America Christian 3, Oklahoma City 1
    • Mid-America Christian (9-9, 5-3 SAC)
    • Oklahoma City (20-4, 8-2 SAC)
PITCHING DECISIONS TOP PERFORMERS SCORING SUMMARY GAME SUMMARY
  • Mid-America Christian struck first in the bottom of the first when Stormy Haynes drew a one-out walk before Emylee Campbell laced a sharp liner down the left field line for an RBI double that brought in the speedy Haynes from first.
  • The Evangels were able to utilize some great opportunities in the second inning. After Brooklyn Wilson led off the frame with a walk, two batters later, Hallie Wilson slapped a single to right before Madisson Chavez dropped an RBI single into left, plating Brooklyn to set the score to 2-0.
  • The Evangels stretched their lead to three when a Brooklyn Alsip wild pitch allowed both runners to move up to second and third before Kisbel Vizcaya hit a deep sac flyout to left that easily brought in Hallie Wilson, wrapping up MACU's scoring at 3-0.
  • The Stars scored their only run of the contest in the top of the third when Carlee Mollet led off the inning with a single to left and stole second before Iliana Ashford hit OCU's only extra-base hit of the contest on a double to the right-center field gap as Mollet came home to close out the scoring completely at 3-1.
  • Neither team was able to get a runner into scoring position the rest of the way as MACU starting pitcher Chana Wolfe emphatically ended the contest with back-to-back strikeouts to seal the 3-1 victory.
GAME NOTES
  • The Evangels scored their three runs on five hits while the Stars notched their lone run on four hits.
  • Junior ace Chana Wolfe continued to be a workhorse in the circle as she tossed her fifth-straight complete game and allowed one of the most potent offenses in the NAIA just one run on four hits and issued just one walk while striking out eight batters.
  • Impressively, Wolfe held the powerhouse Stars to a season-low one run while the four hits was also tied for the fewest hits OCU has notched in a game this season. The lone double also marked the fewest extra-base hits the Stars have tallied in a game this season as well.
  • While the Evangels were also limited going up against one of the best pitchers in the SAC in Brynlee Alsip, MACU was opportunistic and scored three runs on the Stars pitcher, the most that she had allowed in a game this year.
  • Emylee Campbell and Madisson Chavez each finished with RBI knocks with Campbell registering the lone extra-base hit while Kisbel Vizcaya extended her team-lead 15th RBI on a sac fly.
  • Serena Rodriguez was the only Evangel to finish with multiple hits by batting 2-for-3.
  • By getting the victories, MACU has impressively notched its third NAIA Top 10 win after defeating No. 7 Central Methodist 2-0 back on Feb. 22 while also being the only non-top 25 team to defeat OCU this season.
UP NEXT
  • Mid-America Christian will now prepare for another massive test on Wednesday as the Evangels will take on last year's NAIA National Champion No. 9 Our Lady of the Lake at Allen Field with the doubleheader slated for a 1 p.m. first pitch.
