GAME SUMMARY
  • Keeping the trend with yesterday's doubleheader, Mid-America Christian scored early and often as a leadoff single by Kisbel Vizcaya and a bunt single and a stolen base by Stormy Haynes put runners at second and third before Emylee Campbell successfully executed a squeeze bunt single to plate Vizcaya, making it a 1-0 game in the top of the first.
  • The Evangels added to it with two more runs in the first as Serena Rodriguez hit a sac fly to left to bring in Haynes before Campbell stole second and third before scoring on a throw that slipped out of the catcher's hand, setting the score to 3-0.
  • Oklahoma Panhandle State rallied back in the bottom of the first as the Aggies scored their first run following Trinity Higgins leadoff walk, steal of second and was moved down to third on a ground ball before scoring on a sac fly to left, cutting it to 3-1.
  • The Evangels were nearly out of the inning, but an errant throw by Vizcaya with two outs gave OPSU new life as the Aggies registered three consecutive singles to load the bases and bring in a run to set the score to 3-2.
  • MACU made the call to the pen for Gia Reynosa as she entered and got Halle Zupan to ground out to second to keep the Evangels in-front.
  • Mid-America Christian threatened to put up another crooked inning in the top of the second as Brooklyn Wilson led off the frame with a double to center and Makenzie Thurman was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second with no outs. However, a lineout to short for the double play at second allowed the Aggies to nearly escape, but Vizcaya abruptly ended that by ripping a liner to right that got past the diving right fielder for a two-out triple to score a run. Unfortunately, Vizcaya's attempt at an inside-the-parker fell short as the catcher managed to swipe the tag onto MACU's starting shortstop before touching the plate to end the inning.
  • The Evangels added to their advantage in the top of the fourth when Madisson Chavez led off the frame with single to left before Isabel Ray hit a sharp liner to right that similarly to Vizcaya got past the diving outfielder as the third baseman was able to successfully beat out an inside-the-park two-run homer.
  • In the fifth, it appeared as though MACU added to its lead when Haynes drew a leadoff walk, stole second, was moved to third on a flyball before Rodriguez lofted a ball to left for what was believed to be her second sac fly of the game. However, the umpires called Haynes for leaving early on the tag up as the inning was ended on the ruling.
  • Oklahoma Panhandle State never threatened the MACU lead the rest of the way as the Evangels secured the 6-2 win.
GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian scored its six runs on nine hits and committed a pair of errors while OPSU notched its two runs on five hits with one miscue.
  • Sophomore reliever Gia Reynosa picked up her second win in the circle on the season after twirling 6.1 innings of scoreless relief, allowing only a pair of hits and a walk while striking out a career-high eight batters.
  • Isabel Ray led the MACU batting efforts on a 2-for-3 day as her inside-the-park homer was her first dinger of the season while her pair of RBIs also led the team.
  • Kisbel Vizcaya recorded her fourth career triple to finish 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored to go with a stolen bag.
  • Brooklyn Wilson hit her 37th career double, moving her into a tie with Tiffany Holt for the third-most in MACU's record book, putting her just four shy of the record.
  • Emylee Campbell continued to cause problems on the basepaths as she notched two more stolen bases and scored a run while batting 1-for-3 from the plate with an RBI.
  • Stormy Haynes was also a problem on bases for the Aggies as well as the junior infielder finished 1-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and two steals.
  • With the win, Mid-America Christian captured the series against the Aggies for the third-straight season.
GAME TWO
SCORE
  • Mid-America Christian 7, Oklahoma Panhandle State 1
    • Mid-America Christian (13-9, 9-3 SAC)
    • Oklahoma Panhandle State (15-11, 7-5 SAC)
PITCHING DECISION TOP PERFORMERS SCORING SUMMARY GAME SUMMARY
  • The Evangels were able to manufacture first inning runs once again as Serena Rodriguez leadoff walk and a Madisson Chavez infield single set up Kisbel Vizcaya for a one-out RBI single up the middle to push the first run across. Later in the inning, the Evangels perfectly executed a double steal as Isabel Ray nabbed second before Chavez broke home on the throw to make it a 2-0 ballgame.
  • MACU starting pitcher Isabel Ray found herself in some early trouble when OPSU leadoff hitter Trinity Higgins reached first on a fielding error at third, stole second and a bloop single put runners at the corners with no outs. However, Kaylynn Du Prees was called out at first for leaving too early on a steal attempts before a sharp grounder to third and a groundout to short kept the run from crossing home.
  • After getting three double plays in the second, third and fourth innings to escape jams, the MACU bats delivered some insurance in the top of the fifth. A pair of singles from Chavez and Vizcaya to go with Emylee Campbell reaching on an error loaded the bases. While OPSU managed to get one out at home on a fielder's choice, Campbell came across to score the first run on a wild pitch before Brooklyn Wilson ripped a two-RBI double to right center to set the score to 5-0.
  • MACU manufactured another insurance run in the top of the sixth when back-to-back one-out singles by Rodriguez and Chavez as well as Campbell reaching on a fielder's choice out put runners at first and third with two down. As Campbell stole second, a low throw to the catcher back to the pitcher allowed both Campbell to advance to third and Rodriguez to score, making it a 6-0 game.
  • Oklahoma Panhandle State's only run of the contest came with two outs in the bottom of the sixth as Hayley Vasquez hammered a solo homer down the left field line to bring it to 6-1.
  • MACU got the run back in the top of the seventh. After pinch-hitter Heidi Noisey led off the frame with a single and Brooklyn Wilson reached on a fielder's choice out to second, Wilson managed to steal second and then came across to score when she tried to advance to third on a pop foul out to the first baseman, as the low throw across the diamond got away from the third baseman and allowed Wilson to reach home safely.
  • After giving up a one-out line drive single off the glove of a leaping Vizcaya at second, Ray was able to abruptly end the Aggies comeback chances on a popout to second before Hallie Wilson made a phenomenal diving grab in shallow left for the final out.
GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian scored its seven runs on 10 hits and committed two errors while the Aggies scored their lone run on eight hits and made four miscues.
  • The MACU defensive impressively turned three double plays in the contest with the last time the Evangels turning three double plays coming in a 4-2 win over Science & Arts on Apr. 10, 2021.
  • Junior pitcher Isabel Ray recorded her third-straight complete game appearance for the Evangels as she only allowed one earned run on eight hits, seven of which were singles and interestingly did not walk or strike out a single batter.
  • Kisbel Vizcaya and Madisson Chavez led the MACU batting efforts with both hitters slashing 3-for-4 in the contest for six of the Evangels' 10 hits.
  • Brooklyn Wilson was MACU's biggest run producer by recording two of its three RBIs with her double in the fifth. That two-bagger officially allowed her to surpass Holt in MACU's NAIA Era record book with her 39th after Wilson tied her in game one of the day's doubleheader.
  • The Evangels completed the four-game sweep over the Aggies for the second-straight year as MACU managed to outscore OPSU 40-7 in the series.
  • MACU's pitching and defense held one of the NAIA's best hitting teams coming into the weekend to just a .283 team batting average while the Aggies averaged less than two runs per game for the series.
