GREENVILLE, S.C. – The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) unveiled its Division I Women's Basketball All-America list on Thursday morning as the MACU Women's Basketball program had two honorees with senior guard Shy Christopher collecting First Team accolades while senior guard Kylee Scheer was selected to the Second Team.
Christopher and Scheer helped lead the Evangels to one of their best seasons in program history, wrapping up the 2024-25 campaign with a 27-7 overall record while posting a 19-5 mark in Sooner Athletic Conference play to finish third in the league standings.
The Evangels accomplished a couple of program firsts as MACU advanced to its first ever SAC Tournament Championship game after defeating No. 20 Wayland Baptist 97-67 in the semifinal round on Mar. 3.
Receiving one of the two automatic berths to the NAIA Tournament from the SAC, the Evangels put together a stellar run through national tourney play. MACU defeated 10-seed Northwestern (Iowa) 74-64 in the First Round on Mar. 14 before upending a Cinderella upstart 15-seed Kansas Wesleyan 94-74 in the Second Round on Mar. 15, allowing MACU to make its first ever appearance at the NAIA Tournament final site.
Christopher became just the third player since the program joined the NCCAA Division I level in 2007 to be named a three-time First Team All-American, joining Alexis Shannon who received the award in 2018, 2019 and 2020.
The Jacksonville, Arkansas product was once again MACU's offensive leader, recording the sixth-most points in a season in the NAIA Era (2007-present) with 587 while her 17.3 ppg was the eighth-best average. Christopher also set single season top 10 marks in made field goals (218, 6th), field goal attempts (473, 7th), made free throws (129, 5th) and free throw attempts (168, 7th).
Overall, Christopher shot a highly efficient 46.1 percent from the field and 76.8 percent from the foul line while also finishing second on the team in rebounds (161, 4.7 rpg) and assists (82, 2.4 apg).
The dynamic guard saved some of her best performances of her collegiate career for last as she put up a 30-point game in the opening round win over Northwestern before following it up with a career-high 40-point outburst in the victory over Kansas Wesleyan, becoming just the fourth Evangel in the NAIA Era to score 40 or more points in a single game.
Christopher closed out her historic Evangels career with 21 points and seven rebounds in an 80-64 defeat to No. 5 Briar Cliff (Iowa) in the NAIA Tournament Round of 16 that was played at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa on Mar. 21. On the whole, Christopher finished NAIA Tournament play by averaging 30.3 ppg on 34-for-62 (54.8 percent shooting), including going 21-of-28 (75.0 percent) from the free throw line with 20 rebounds (6.7 rpg).
Over her three-year MACU career, Christopher will go down as one of the greatest players in program history, wrapping up her Evangels tenure with several NAIA Era Top 10 marks, including: points (1699, 2nd), points per game (18.3, 3rd), rebounds (488, 6th), rebounds per game (5.2, 10th), assists (221, 6th), made field goals (634, 2nd), field goal percentage (48.2, 5th), made free throws (377, 1st), free throw percentage (73.5, 10th) and games played (93, 10th).
While Scheer put together a solid first year with the Evangels last season, the senior guard took her game to the next level during the 2024-25 campaign. Overall, Scheer finished the season as the team's second-best scorer with 484 points (14.7 ppg) on a 43.8 percent shooting clip. On-top of making the ninth-most threes in a season in the NAIA Era (65), the Cheney, Kansas native also notched the seventh-best free throw percentage (78.3, 65-of-83) while also leading the team in rebounds (232, 7.0 rpg), assists (95, 2.9 apg) and steals (64, 1.9 spg), marking the seventh-most steals and the ninth-most steals per game.
Even in just two seasons at MACU, Scheer inked her name all over the program's career record book, setting marks in: points per game (13.0, 7th), rebounds (421, 9th), rebounds per game (6.6, 5th), assists per game (2.6, 9th), steals (113, 9th), steals per game (1.8, 4th), made field goals (300, 9th), field goal percentage (44.4, 8th), made three-pointers (119, 7th) and three-point percentage (35.2).
On the whole, Scheer is the 12th player from the MACU Women's Basketball program since 2012-13 player to receive an NCCAA All-America honor.
