No. 24 Women’s Basketball to Battle No. 17 Langston for SAC Tournament Title

OKLAHOMA CITY – The No. 24 MACU Women's Basketball team will be seeking its first ever Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament Championship tonight as the Evangels will battle top-seeded No. 17 Langston at 5:30 p.m. inside C.F. Gayles Fieldhouse on the campus of Langston University.

SEASON REPORT
  • Record: 25-5 (19-5 SAC)
  • Last Game: Won vs. (2) No. 20 Wayland Baptist (Texas) – 97-67 – Mar. 3, 2025 – Langston, Okla. (SAC Semifinal)
  • Stat Leaders:
  • Team Notes:
    • Mid-America Christian put together a performance for the ages in its SAC Semifinal matchup against second-seeded No. 20 Wayland Baptist on Monday afternoon as the Evangels put together their best shooting performance of the season, going 55.7 percent from the field and 41.7 percent from three-point range to run away with a 97-67 win over the Flying Queens.
    • The victory for the Evangels marked the program's largest margin of victory over Wayland with the previous biggest win coming in a 96-68 win inside the Gaulke Activity Center back on Jan. 26, 2023.
    • MACU has put together an incredible run through SAC Tournament play thus far as the win over WBU also marked the second-straight 30-point win after the Evangels defeated sixth-seed Science & Arts 87-57 inside the Gaulke Activity Center in the quarterfinal round on Feb. 27.
    • The tandem of Shy Christopher and Kylee Scheer have been a big reason for MACU's postseason success so far as the duo is combining to score 40.0 ppg on 32-of-57 (56.1 percent) shooting, going 9-of-21 (42.9 percent) from three-point range. Christopher (22.0 ppg) is also pulling down 5.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per contest while Scheer (18.0 ppg) is also chipping in 5.0 rpg, 2.5 apg to go with 1.5 thefts per match.
    • While MACU's guard duo has been great all season, the play of MACU's two low post presences in Syncere Harrod and Sydney Savage have also been significant. Harrod in tourney play is averaging 13.0 ppg on an incredible 73.3 percent shooting clip while Savage is tallying her 10.0 ppg on a stellar 64.3 percent rate as well.
SCOUTING REPORT

  • Team Notes:
    • Langston faced a challenge from College of the Ozarks for the first 23 minutes before the Lions put together an 19-2 run for the last seven minutes of the third quarter and the start of the fourth as the Lions held on for the 73-56 victory in their semifinal matchup.
    • A big reason for the Lions success this season is due in-large part to their dominant defense as Langston leads the NAIA in scoring defense (49.4 ppg), 3.5 points lower than the second-best scoring defense in the NAIA while the Lions are also strong on the offensive end, ranking third in the SAC in scoring offense at 72.9 ppg.
    • The Lions are spearheaded by a trio of talented guards in seniors Jordan Brown, Diamond Richardson and grad student Mikayla Woods. The backcourt combo is combining to score 37.0 ppg while all three are shooting 42 percent or better from the field, 31 percent or better from the three-point arc and 73 percent or better from the foul line.
    • Much like its matchup against Wayland, Mid-America Christian will be seeking its first win against Langston during the SAC Tournament as Langston won a pair of close matchups by a score of 82-76 at Langston on Nov. 26 before falling 62-55 inside the Gaulke Activity Center on Jan. 20.
