Women’s Basketball Tabs Three to All-Sooner Athletic Conference Team

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Sooner Athletic Conference unveiled its 2024-25 All-Conference Team on Wednesday morning as the Evangels had three standouts earn league accolades.

Senior guard Kylee Scheer was one of two Evangels to be named to the All-SAC First Team as well as garnered All-Defensive Team honors. Senior guard Shy Christopher was also named to the All-SAC First Team while senior forward Syncere Harrod rounded out the recipients with an Honorable Mention selection.

With Christopher and Scheer both being selected to the All-SAC First Team, it is the first time in program history that MACU has landed two players on the First Team in the same season.

In her second season with the Evangels, Scheer can be considered one of the best all-around players to join the program since becoming an NAIA and SAC affiliated institution in 2007. In her two-year Evangels career, Scheer ranks in the program's NAIA Era top 10 in several statistical categories, including: points per game (13.1, 7th), rebounds per game (6.4, 5th), assists per game (2.7, 8th) and steals per game (1.8, 4th). The Cheney, Kansas product is also boasting the seventh-best career field goal percentage (45.3), eighth-best three-point percentage (35.5) and is posting a stellar 79.1 percent rate from the charity stripe.

During SAC play, Scheer was one of only two players in the conference that ranked in the top 10 in points (15.3, 9th), rebounds (7.3, 8th) and steals (2.0, 5th) with only SAC Player of the Year Megan Nestor from Wayland Baptist also holding top 10 spots in those statistical categories.

Christopher joined an exclusive club with her First Team selection as she joins Alexis Shannon (2017-20) as the only players in program history to be selected to the All-SAC First Team three times.

Over the course of conference play, Christopher boasted the 10th-best scoring average (15.0 ppg), while shooting 42.9 percent from the field and 76.9 percent from the free throw line. The Jacksonville, Arkansas native also produced a strong floor game by averaging 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.

In three seasons at MACU, Christopher has put up remarkable numbers in the program's NAIA Era record book, ranking second in points (1608), third in points per game (17.9), sixth in rebounds (468), and seventh in assists (217).

Not only has Christopher been scoring in volume, but she has been the pinnacle of efficiency as she's notched the second-most made field goals (600) on the second-most attempts (1254) while boasting the fourth-highest field goal percentage (47.8) and holds the program's made free throws record (356) on the second-most attempts (485) and 10th-best free throw percentage (73.4).

Receiving an Honorable Mention nod, Harrod has made a strong impact in her lone season with the Evangels, especially in the second half of the season.

In SAC contests, the Oklahoma City product averaged 9.5 ppg while efficiently shooting 48 percent from the field and 75 percent from the charity stripe. On-top of averaging 4.4 rebounds per game, Harrod also wreaked havoc on the defensive end, tallying 24 steals and 12 blocked shots.

The Evangels closed out the conference slate with a 17-5 record in league play to finish third in the standings. MACU will receive one of the SAC's two automatic berths to the NAIA Tournament after finishing as a finalist in the tournament championship game.

Mid-America Christian will now await to see where its postseason road will take it as the NAIA Tournament Selection Show is slated for Thursday at 6 p.m. on the NAIA Network.
