GAME SUMMARY
  • Mid-America Christian was able to generate the offense early as Hallie Wilson's one-out single, steal of second before eventually getting to third on a groundout followed by Serena Rodriguez drawing a walk, Kayten Herman drove both runners in on a deep flyball to center that was just out of the reach out the centerfielder to make it a 2-0 game.
  • The Evangels threatened to add more by loading the bases later in the frame as Brooklyn Wilson drew a bases-loaded walk to plate Herman, but the Evangels were unable to add any more as MACU grabbed a 3-0 lead by the end of its frame.
  • Southwestern Christian managed to drop a bases-loaded off the bat of single down the right field line to score its first run before Madison Jones hit a sac fly to right to cut the MACU lead down to 3-2.
  • Following back-to-back singles by Kisbel Vizcaya and Hallie Wilson to start off the second, the Evangels put together a four-run frame as Rodriguez started the spree with an RBI double to right followed by a Herman sac fly to center and a Makenzie Thurman single up the middle before Isabel Ray's RBI triple down the right field line extended the edge to 7-2.
  • The Eagles put together a four-run frame of their own in the bottom of the second to cut it to a one-run game before eventually taking the lead in the bottom of the third on Trinity Norwood's RBI single down the right field line to make it 8-7 SCU.
  • Mid-America Christian battled back to retake the lead in the top of the fifth as three-straight, one-out singles by Stormy Haynes, Vizcaya and Hallie Wilson loaded the bases before Emylee Campbell ripped a bases-clearing, three-RBI double down the left field line to make it a 10-8 MACU advantage.
  • SCU once again surged back with another four-run frame in the bottom of the fifth as Jessie Moralez hammered a two-RBI double of her own to tie it with two outs before Lexi Cahwee hit a long ball to center to give the Eagles the 12-10 advantage.
  • It looked as though MACU was going to miss out on opportunity to tie by getting runners to second and third on a pair of singles by Thurman and Brooklyn Wilson before Haynes grounded out to third to move the runners with two outs. Vizcaya hit a pop-up to shallow center that looked like it was going to end it, but a miscommunication caused the ball to drop in for a two-RBI bloop single, tying the game at 12-all.
  • The two teams needed to settle the contest in extra innings, but MACU came up empty in their half of the eighth before the Eagles moved the winning run down to third on a sac bunt before Madison Jones hit a sac fly to left to score Payton Leba to walk-off the contest at 13-12.
GAME NOTES
  • Southwestern Christian scored its 13 runs on 16 hits while Mid-America Christian tallied its 12 runs on 15 hits while committing a pair of errors.
  • Of MACU's 15 hits, nine of which came from a trio of players as Kisbel Vizcaya slashed 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored, Hallie Wilson reached base four times by batting 3-of-4 with a walk, a stolen base and a team-high three runs and Makenzie Thurman batted 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run.
  • Two different Evangels tallied three RBIs in the game as Kayten Herman finished 1-for-3 with a double while Emylee Campbell finished 1-for-5 with all of her runs coming off her two-bagger.
  • Serena Rodriguez continued to be an on-base machine for MACU as she finished 1-for-1 with a double, an RBI and a run scored to go with a pair of walks drawn.
  • It was a tough luck loss for Brooke Wyatt in relief. The junior righty only allowed one unearned run on one hit and a pair of walks to go with a strikeout over three innings of work.
  • By getting the win, SCU snapped its eight-game losing streak entering the contest as well as its four-game skid to MACU
GAME TWO
SCORE
  • Mid-America Christian 2, Southwestern Christian 0
    • Mid-America Christian (16-14, 12-8 SAC)
    • Southwestern Christian (22-16, 13-13 SAC)
PITCHING DECISIONS TOP PERFORMERS SCORING SUMMARY GAME SUMMARY
  • It was tough sledding for both teams offensively through the first few innings, but with nobody on and two-out in the top of the third, Mid-America Christian put together a rally as Kisbel Vizcaya slapped a single through the right side and moved down to second when Hallie Wilson was hit by a pitch. Campbell once again came up big for MACU by slapping a single up the middle to plate Vizcaya to make it a 1-0 ballgame.
  • Like clockwork, the Evangels executed all the same in the top of the fourth when Isabel Ray legged out a hustle double to shallow center that the centerfielder couldn't quite make a diving grab on before Faith Kelley hammered an RBI double down the left field line to set the score to 2-0.
  • The only time Southwestern Christian even mustered a major threat against MACU starting pitcher Gia Reynosa came all the way in the bottom of the seventh when Jessie Moralez dropped a fortuitous flyball down the right field line for a leadoff double. However, MACU was able to take advantage of some overaggressive baserunning as Moralez was putout two batters later on a fielder's choice from short to third before getting Madison Jones to ground into a fielder's choice from short to second to wrap-up the win.
GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian scored its two runs on nine hits while Southwestern Christian tallied only three hits for the game.
  • It was the second career complete game shutout for Gia Reynosa and her first of the sophomore campaign as she tossed all seven innings and gave up only three hits and no walks to go with a lone strikeout.
  • Kisbel Vizcaya continued to swing a blistering bat as she went 3-for-4 with a run scored. Overall, Vizcaya finished the doubleheader by batting 6-for-9 for the day.
  • Faith Kelley was the only other Evangel to finish with multiple hits as she went 2-for-3 with an RBI off her double.
  • Isabel Ray notched the only other base hit for MACU as she finished 1-for-3 with a run.
  • Emylee Campbell tallied the only other RBI of the contest, slashing 1-for-3 with a walk drawn as well.
  • The win allowed MACU to split the twin bill with the Eagles as the two teams will look to finish the series with a doubleheader at Dolese Park on Apr. 23.
UP NEXT
  • Mid-America Christian will be back on the road on Tuesday as the Evangels prepare to head up to McPherson, Kansas for a midweek twin bill at Central Christian slated for a 5 p.m. first pitch.
