GAME SUMMARY
  • Mid-America Christian found itself down almost right out of the gate as a Arianna Zubia opened the contest with a leadoff single to center and was moved to second on a sac bunt before WBU's best hitter Brooklyn Araujo hammered a deep RBI double to right to make it a 1-0 game.
  • The Evangels were able to get things in-motion almost right away in the bottom of the second as Madisson Chavez started it off with an infield single to third before eventually putting runners on the corners following a Makenzie Thurman sac bunt and an Isabel Ray single up the middle. Chavez tied the game when WBU starting pitcher Adrianna Armstrong spiked a pitch in the dirt that got past the catcher before Gia Reynosa put the Evangels in-front by launching a deep RBI double to the right center field wall. Kisbel Vizcaya made it a 3-1 lead just two batters later when she dropped an RBI single into left to bring in Reynosa.
  • MACU made some costly mistakes in the top of the third that gave the Pioneers some new life. After Christian Moyers reached on a throwing error that pulled Makenzie Thurman off the bag and the next two batters were retired, Wayland Baptist started its charge. Araujo drew a two-out walk to put runners at first and second before Addy Rich hit a sharp grounder that went through the wickets of Isabel Ray at third for the second error of the frame and allowing Moyers to score. WBU captured the lead when Amber Poorbaugh ripped a two-RBI double down the left field line before Berkley Bradley slapped an RBI single to center to make it a 5-3 Pioneers advantage.
  • The Pioneers added two more runs to their advantage in the fourth as leadoff Ivins single and a sac bunt set up Mikayla Carrillo for an RBI single to left before Araujo continued to stay hot by hammering another RBI single down the left field line to make it a 7-3 ballgame.
  • Reynosa tried to spark some life into the MACU bats in the bottom of the sixth when she blasted her second two-out double to center field, but the Evangels were unable to bring her in.
  • WBU scored one more run of insurance in the top of the seventh as Poorbaugh was struck by a pitch before the Pioneers utilized some small ball with a sac bunt and wild pitch moving the catcher down to third before Mikenzi Carlo's sac fly to right brought in the run to set the score to 8-3.
  • Mid-America Christian tried to string together a rally in its half of the seventh as Vizcaya started it off with a single up the middle and Hallie Wilson reached on a bobbled grounder to second. After both runners were moved to second and third following Faith Kelley's groundout to third, Serena Rodriguez brought both home with a two-RBI single up the middle to make it 8-5.
  • With the tying run in the on-deck circle, the Pioneers elected to go to a closer in Erin Trevino as she induced a strikeout and a groundout to end the contest.
GAME NOTES
  • Wayland Baptist scored its eight runs on nine hits and committed a pair of errors while the Evangels notched their seven runs on eight hits with two miscues.
  • It was a tough-luck loss for Gia Reynosa in the circle as she allowed five runs, but only one earned over the first 2.2 innings. However, Reynosa was able to make up for it with her bat. After entering the contest slashing just 1-for-10, the sophomore from San Antonio went 2-for-3 with MACU's only extra-base hits to tally an RBI and a run scored.
  • Kisbel Vizcaya was the only other Evangel to tally multiple hits, slashing 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run.
  • Serena Rodriguez notched MACU's two other RBIs as the freshman outfielder slashed 1-for-3 and also reached on a hit-by-pitch.
  • The defeat for MACU was just its second to the Pioneers since Wayland Baptist established its softball program and started Sooner Athletic Conference play for the first time last season.
GAME TWO

    • Mid-America Christian (19-15, 15-9 SAC)
    • Wayland Baptist (18-22, 12-16 SAC)
PITCHING DECISION TOP PERFORMERS SCORING SUMMARY GAME SUMMARY
  • It was tough sledding for both teams through the first two innings before Wayland Baptist put together a two-out rally in the third. After Brooklyn Araujo reached on a single up the middle, Addy Rich dropped a Texas Leaguer flyball that dropped in between Kisbel Vizcaya and Gia Reynosa in right field that allowed Araujo flying around the bases to score all the way from first. The Pioneers continued to threaten as WBU loaded the bases on an Amber Poorbaugh single and a Berkley Bradley walk. However, the Evangels stemmed the tide when Chloeaunna Madbull-Jim came in in relief and induced a routine flyout to center to end the threat.
  • After going down in-order through the first two frames, the Evangels were able to get to Rich pitching in a big way in their half of the third. MACU tallied five consecutive base hits off the bats of Heidi Noisey, Brooklyn Wilson, Stormy Haynes to load the bases before Kisbel Vizcaya put MACU in-front with a two-RBI single up the middle before Hallie Wilson ended the hit parade with an RBI single to center.
  • Serena Rodriguez grounding into a fielder's choice out at second only briefly stopped MACU's incredible hitting run as Kayten Herman with runners at the corners hammered a screaming line drive double to left that got past the left fielder and to the wall to bring in both runners, setting the score to 5-1.
  • MACU saw a little bit of déjà vu in the bottom of the fifth when Hallie Wilson reached on a leadoff single and Rodriguez grounded into another fielder's choice, this time to short before Herman hammered an RBI double just barely fair down the left field line to score Rodriguez from third, setting it to a 6-1 ballgame.
  • After Thurman was hit by a pitch, the Evangels ran into some tough luck when Emylee Campbell smashed a line drive to the right side that Thurman wasn't able to get out of the way of, as the interference call put runners at the corners with two outs. Noisey gave MACU one more run by slapping a base hit back up the middle to set the score to 7-1.
  • The Evangels were able to close the game out on a run rule in the bottom of the sixth as Vizcaya drew a one-out walk and got down to third on a wild pitch and Hallie Wilson single that put runners at second and third as Wilson took advantage of the throw to third to take second. Rodriguez then ended the contest by slapping a two-RBI single up the middle to wrap-up the 9-1 final.
GAME NOTES
  • Mid-America Christian scored its nine runs on 12 hits and made one miscue while Wayland Baptist tallied its only run on five hits.
  • After Nyssa Dunn battled through 2.2 innings of tough softball, allowing only one earned run on four hits with three walks, sophomore reliever Chloeaunna Madbull-Jim tossed 3.1 outstanding innings of relief to get her second win of the season. Madbull-Jim allowed only one hit and tallied three strikeouts.
  • Much like game one, the only extra-base hits in the contest came off only one bat. Getting the start at catcher in game two, Kayten Herman finished the day slashing 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and a game-high three RBIs to go with a run.
  • Kisbel Vizcaya continued to be a run producing machine at the top of MACU's order as she batted 1-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs to go with a pair of runs.
  • Serena Rodriguez also tallied two RBIs and two runs of her own as she swatted 1-for-4.
  • Hallie Wilson tallied the most hits by going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run while Heidi Noisey also notched a pair of hits at 2-for-3 with an RBI.
  • The win snapped MACU's two-game losing streak to the Pioneers after WBU took the series finale last year. It also marked the first time the Evangels ever defeated Wayland Baptist via the run rule.
UP NEXT
  • Mid-America Christian will wrap-up the four-game series on Friday with a Senior Day doubleheader slated for a 2 p.m. first pitch. The Senior Ceremony will take place following the conclusion of the second game.
