MATCH SUMMARY
  • First Half
    • Both teams started the game quickly on the offensive side as Hastings fired the first shot on goal, forcing the save from Alba Vigo in the first five minutes. The Bronco goalkeeper, Tatiana Villasenor, was called upon next saving a breakaway on Rosina Mastro in the 8th minute. Four minutes later, Villasenor made another great save on Brae Baker looking to sneak one in the front post.
    • The Broncos would eventually get on the scoresheet in the 21st minute after a string of dangerous corner kicks. Millie Gell gets on the end of it inside the box as the Evangels struggled to get it clear.
    • The Evangels responded well after conceding by firing off the next three shots, putting one on frame and forcing the save. But the Broncos continued to look dangerous on corner kicks to close out the first half.
  • Second Half
    • The Evangels found the back of the net just two minutes into the second half with Abby Sonne grabbing her first of the season from a beautiful cross by Cammy Hargrove.
    • The Broncos responded immediately just 70 seconds later with Jesse Chartier who found the back of the net off a fantastic team goal by Hastings. The build up allowed Payton Tanner to get in behind the Evangel defense and square one across goal for Chartier to put the Broncos back on top.
    • The scoring wasn't done there; Gladis Avalos was fouled inside the box in the 50th minute and buried the penalty kick to knot up the score once again for MACU.
    • The Evangels looked to push for the lead with the next three shots before a counterattack by Hastings forced Alba Vigo into a spectacular diving save protecting the 2-2 scoreline.
    • Both teams continued to show high octane offensive power, but the best chance came for MACU in the 73rd minute with Brae Baker in on goal and dribbling around the Bronco goalkeeper but unable to find the angle on the open net.
    • The Broncos would find their third lead of the game in the 78th minute through Madison Rhodes off another set piece. Rhodes found some space on top of the box and placed a perfect shot into the top right corner.
    • The Broncos fended off all the late efforts the Evangels threw at them to spoil the home opener.
MATCH NOTES
  • MACU held the shot advantage 16 to 11 over Hastings with 8-7 shots on goal margin.
  • Gladis Avalos and Brae Baker continued to lead the attack for the Evangels tallying 11 shots between them. Avalos scored the first penalty kick of the season, scoring the third goal in a three minute stretch to start the second half.
  • This home loss marks the first loss at Dill Soccer Field for the Evangels since Sep. 30, 2023, where they fell to Science & Arts in a 3-2 result.
  • This was the first meeting between the Evangels and the Broncos.
