No. 19 Baseball Pummels Peru State 3-0, 15-1 on Day One of Four-Game Series

OKLAHOMA CITY – No. 19 MACU baseball dominated in a pair of wins in the home opener against Peru State on Thursday afternoon as the Evangels won 3-0 in game one and 15-1 in game two at the MACU Baseball Field.

PITCHING DECISION TOP PERFORMERS SCORING SUMMARY GAME SUMMARY
  • The first action came in the bottom of the fourth as MACU had two on base through walks. However, three strikeouts saw two Evangel base runners left out there to close the inning.
  • Peru State fired a lead off hit in the top of the fifth to center field, but MACU defense turned a double play and caught a line out to end the inning.
  • The scoring started in the bottom of the sixth as Nick Hill doubled to left center field, followed by Frankie Giacalone getting hit by the pitch to put two on the bases. Adam Hanan drove in both runs with a single to left center field. Then Cole Krepcik doubled to bring in a third run from second base to give MACU a 3-0 lead.
GAME NOTES
  • In a low scoring contest, Peru State out-hit MACU by a 4-3 margin.
  • Andrws Acosta was a monster on the mound pitching 6 innings allowing just four hits and one walk. Acosta recorded four strikeouts in six shutout innings.
  • Adam Hanan brought in a team-high two RBIs in the bottom of the sixth with his single. The Evangels only recorded three hits as Nick Hill beat a double and Cole Krepcik brought in a third run with his RBI double.

PITCHING DECISION TOP PERFORMERS SCORING SUMMARY GAME SUMMARY
  • Unlike the first game, action came quickly in the top of the first with a pair of singles coming from the Bobcats. However, the third out came from a pick off to close the half inning.
  • MACU quickly had a man on first and second in the bottom of the first. Nick Hill singled to center field to load the bases, then Sammy Hallada stole home for the opening run.
  • Cole Krepcik brought fireworks in the bottom of the second with a triple down the right line scoring Julio Felix. Hallada joined the second inning party with a double down the left field line to bring in Krepcik and lead 3-0.
  • Frankie Giacalone sent one out of the ballpark in the bottom of the third to bring in Nick Hill who walked. Elijah Lee sacrificed fly out to right field which scored Adam Hanan. Then Hallada hit a second home run of this half inning to score three more runs, as MACU led 9-0.
  • Lee got right back to business in the bottom of the fifth inning with an RBI ground out to score Krepcik. Then Giacalone hit a second homer of the game, this time bringing in loaded bases with him to collect four RBIs and a 14-0 Evangel advantage.
  • The Bobcats got on the board in the top of the sixth on an Evangel defensive throwing error. Peru State had the bases juiced, but the MACU defense was able to come out of the inning only conceding one.
  • The Evangels tacked on a 15th run in the bottom of the sixth as Tuane Cope scored from second base on a wild pitch.
GAME NOTES
  • MACU dominated the plate with 14 hits to score 15 runs. Peru State hit better in game two as well recording seven hits but only scoring one run.
  • Ibrahim Gonzalez recorded the win to improve to 2-0 on the young season. Gonzalez pitched five shutout innings, conceded five hits and two walks, while striking out five batters.
  • The Evangels had two batters in Sammy Hallada and Cole Krepcik record three hits and three runs, followed by two-hit games from Jalen King, Frankie Giacalone, and Adam Hanan. Giacalone drove in a game-high six RBIs, including two home runs, one of them being a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth. Hallada tallied four RBIs, as this partnership with Giacalone batted in 10 of the 13 RBIs.
  • Today marked the first meeting between Mid-America Christian and Peru State, as the Evangels have a 2-0 all-time record against the Bobcats.
