No. 19 Baseball Completes Series Sweep Over Peru State 3-0, 7-2

OKLAHOMA CITY – No. 19 MACU baseball stayed in full control on Friday afternoon's doubleheader against Peru State by completing the series sweep with 3-0, 7-2 victories over the Bobcats in the home series opener.

PITCHING DECISION TOP PERFORMERS SCORING SUMMARY GAME SUMMARY
  • MACU opened the scoring in the bottom of the second starting with Adam Hanan double down the left field line, advancing Frankie Giacalone to third base. Cole Krepcik RBI single scored Giacalone, then Hanan followed right behind stealing home off a wild pitch to give MACU a 2-0 lead.
  • Peru State looked for a quick answer in the top of the third advancing runners to second and third but left both on base with three straight outs.
  • The Evangels rallied with two outs in the bottom of the fifth, as Nick Hill's RBI single drove in Jalen King for a 3-0 lead.
  • Liam Taft came in to clean up the top of the seventh and retired three straight batters after conceding a lead off hit.
GAME NOTES
  • In a low scoring contest, MACU held a narrow 5-3 hit margin. However, the Bobcats left eight men on base to the Evangels' five.  
  • Jayce Moore pitched six scoreless innings, giving up just two hits, while striking out nine batters. Liam Taft came in for the save in the top of the seventh, striking out one batter and retiring the inning.
  • Adam Hanan had the only hit that awarded bonus bases with a double. Nick Hill and Cole Krepcik credited the only two RBIs in game one.

GAME SUMMARY
  • The Evangels hit the board quickly in the bottom of the fifth starting first with a lead off single from Sammy Hallada. Frankie Giacalone doubled to left center field to bring in Hallada for an early 1-0 lead.
  • The Bobcats looked for a quick response, getting runners on second and third with zero outs. Three straight strikeouts from Byron Madero retired the half inning and leaving two Bobcats on base.
  • Giacalone got on base after wearing one off the arm to get a lead man on. Frankie stole second and got all the way home off a sequence of errors in the bottom of the fourth. Adam Hanan doubled to left center field, followed by Julio Felix stealing second. An RBI single from Cole Krepcik drove in both baserunners to lead 4-0.
  • MACU quickly added three more in the next inning thanks to a solo home run from Nick Hill. A pair of walks got Jesse Ortega and Felix on base again. Krepcik hit the left field gap again, scoring both runners for a 7-0 advantage.
  • Peru State looked for a late seventh inning rally loading the bases after three consecutive walks. A fourth walk brought in the first Bobcats' run. A second run scored off a ground out double play before a pop out to the short stop ended the game.
GAME NOTES
  • MACU continued to roll at the plate outhitting the Bobcats by an 8-4 margin. The Evangels also had a clean seven defensive innings, while Peru State committed four errors.  
  • Byron Madero dominated on the mound this afternoon, pitching six innings, allowing just three hits with 10 strikeouts.
  • The Evangels had three two-hit batters in Sammy Hallada, Adam Hanan, and Cole Krepcik. Krepcik led the way with four RBIs, while Nick Hill had the only home run: a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth.
  • This week marked the first meeting between Mid-America Christian and Peru State. The Evangels four-game series sweep over the Bobcats took them 4-0 all-time.
UP NEXT
  • Mid-America Christian goes back on the road for a non-conference midweek game against Friends on Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m. in Wichita, Kansas. The Evangels will return home for the Sooner Athletic Conference opener hosting crosstown rivals Southwestern Christian the following weekend at the MACU Baseball Field.
