No. 16 Baseball Sweeps Rivals Oklahoma City with 12-3, 6-4 Road Wins

OKLAHOMA CITY – No. 16 MACU Baseball capped off the sweep over Oklahoma City in Saturday afternoon's double header with 12-3 and 6-4 wins on the road. The Evangels dominated game one with three home runs, while seeing program history in game two as Liam Taft's save in the seventh inning tied the program record with 10.

PITCHING DECISION TOP PERFORMERS SCORING SUMMARY GAME SUMMARY
  • After a slow start in the first two innings, MACU opened the scoring in the third with a two-out rally that scored a pair of runs from a 2-RBI double from Nick Hill to score Sammy Hallada and Jalen King. Adam Hanan singled to left field to score Hill's run from second for a 3-0 lead.
  • In the fourth, Jahzeel Groetelaers hammered MACU's first home run over the left field wall for a 4-0 advantage.
  • The Stars got on the board in the fourth with consecutive doubles to trim into the lead.
  • However, the Evangels grew their lead in the next half inning as Hallada walked and advanced to third on an error. Hill's sacrifice fly into the outfield scored Hallada. Then Hanan followed up with a solo home run to lead 6-1.
  • MACU brought fireworks again this time in the top of the sixth with a lead off single from Cole Krepcik. Consecutive walks drawn from Groetelaers and Ned Ceklic loaded the bags. Hallada cleared them with a grand slam over the left field wall to extend a 10-1 lead. Two more runs were scored as Jalen King doubled after the homer and Hill brought him home with an RBI single. Hill scored after Krepcik's single into right field.
  • OCU hit a two-run homer in the bottom half of the sixth, but the Evangels lead was unsurmountable to close out game one 12-3.
 
GAME NOTES
  • MACU dominated all aspects offensively in game one with a 13-7 hit margin over OCU.
  • Ibrahim Gonzalez credited his fifth win of the season, pitching five complete innings allowing just one earned run on three hits. Gonzalez conceded zero walks while striking out seven batters. Jace Reid entered in relief and pitched the final two innings with a pair of strikeouts.
  • The Evangels had a pair of batters with three hits led by Adam Hanan's and Cole Krepcik's 3-4 outings. Hanan and Groetelaers hit solo home runs, while Sammy Hallada's bases clearing home run capped of a three-home run game. Hallada and Nick Hill led MACU with four RBIs a piece.
  • Mid-America Christian extends its win streak over Oklahoma City to four consecutive.

GAME SUMMARY
  • The Stars scored the opening run in their first at bat as an RBI single up the middle scores the run from third. However, the Evangels turned a double play to end the inning and leave two Stars on base.  
  • MACU answered in the second with two early base runners as Frankie Giacalone walked and Cole Krepcik singled up the middle. Giacalone scored on a wild pitch to equalize, before Krepcik scored on an RBI from Elijah Lee.
  • The Evangels quickly added three more runs in the third with a lead off single from Jalen King. Adam Hanan singled for a second base runner, while Giacalone's RBI single scored King's run. Julio Felix continued his excellent series with another double which scored two more runs for a 5-1 MACU lead.
  • OCU responded in the bottom half of the third with one run scored on a balk after a leadoff double and advanced to third on a wild pitch.
  • MACU made it 6-2 in the fifth as once again it was Felix with an RBI double to left field as Hanan made it home after reaching on a left field double himself.
  • The Evangels pushed for more in the sixth inning loading the bases. However, consecutive outs ended the half inning and left MACU empty handed.
  • Oklahoma City's last attempt to extend the game came up just short as the Stars put on early pressure with a pair of singles, followed by a double to score both runners. However, in came Liam Taft for his 10th save of the season to tie the program record and cap off the weekend sweep over Oklahoma City.
 
GAME NOTES
  • MACU held a narrow 11-10 hit margin over OCU. Unlike the first two games of the series that saw frequent errors, game three finished with zero errors for both teams.
  • Carlos Uribe started on the mound and pitched 2.1 innings with two earned runs off five hits and two strikeouts. Byron Madero took over in relief and was credited with his fourth win of the season with 4.1 innings pitched, striking out four batters while conceding two earned runs on five hits. Liam Taft saved the win in the bottom of the seventh for a program tying 10th save of the season. Taft's next save will etch him into MACU Baseball history with the most saves in a single season.
  • The Evangels had two hitters with multiple hits led by Adam Hanan who went 3-4 with a double while scoring two runs. Julio Felix also had a great weekend with a 2-3 game three with a team-high three RBIs and two doubles. Frankie Giacalone also chipped in with two runs scored, going 1-2 with an RBI and a pair of walks.
  • Mid-America Christian cuts into the all-time series record at 15-47. However, the Evangels have won five consecutive over their crosstown rivals Oklahoma City.
