No. 14 Baseball Takes Pair 8-3, 7-0 against College of the Ozarks to Start Alumni Weekend

OKLAHOMA CITY – No. 14 MACU Baseball needed just two pitchers in two games as Ibrahim Gonzalez pitched seven innings including six shutout innings to lead the Evangels to an 8-3 win in game one. While Fabian Hernandez on the mound for game two blanked the Bobcats 7-0 in all seven innings on Friday afternoon at the MACU Baseball Field.

GAME SUMMARY
  • College of the Ozarks struck first in its opening at bat with consecutive singles for a pair of base runners. The Bobcats turned it into runs with an RBI as the bases were loaded. A double to right field scored two more runs for an early 3-0 lead.
  • The Evangels scored their first run in the bottom half of the second inning with a sacrifice fly out to right field to score Cole Krepcik as MACU loaded the bases early. However, the final out came to leave two runners on base.
  • MACU didn't trail for long as in the fourth inning the offense started with a single from Krepcik. Julio Felix tied it up at three with his first home run of the season to left field to score both runs. The Evangels weren't done there as Jahzeel Groetelaers reached base after getting hit by the pitch. Then Sammy Hallada scored Dyson Kinnaman who came in to pinch run to lead 4-3.
  • The Evangel offense stayed hot into the fifth with consecutive solo home runs to lead off the inning from Adam Hanan and Frankie Giacalone.
  • MACU wasn't done scored there as the Evangels tacked on two more in their last half inning of action in the sixth. A lead off single from Hallada was scored after Jalen King's RBI double to right field scored Hallada from first. Nick Hill up next singled through the left side gap as King scored from second base.
  • Ibrahim Gonzalez closed out the game in the top of the seventh for his third complete game of the season as he got out of a jam with a runner on third by forcing a fly out for an Evangels 8-3 win.
 
GAME NOTES
  • MACU finished with 12 hits to COFO's eight. However, the Evangels completed a third consecutive game without committing an error. The Bobcats recorded one error.  
  • Ibrahim Gonzalez pitched all seven innings, recording 118 pitches for his third complete game of the season. Gonzalez improved to 6-1 on the season, while striking out 10 batters on just one walk. He surrendered eight hits and three earned runs which all came in the top of the first inning.
  • The Evangels had a pair of batters finish with three hits as the offense went through Cole Krepcik and Sammy Hallada. Krepcik went 3-4, scoring two runs and walked once. Hallada finished 3-4 with a run and an RBI. Julio Felix was the only other Evangel to record multiple hits with a 2-3 afternoon including a home run and two RBIs.  
  • MACU tied its season-high with three home runs in one game. Felix hit the first, followed by consecutive solo home runs in the fifth from Adam Hanan and Frankie Giacalone.

PITCHING DECISION TOP PERFORMERS SCORING SUMMARY GAME SUMMARY
  • MACU scored its first runs in the second inning as Julio Felix and Jahzeel Groetelaers both reached on consecutive hit by pitches. A wild pitch advanced both runners 90 feet. As an RBI ground out from Elijah Lee scored the first run. Sammy Hallada's RBI single scored Dyson Kinnaman from third base who was in courtesy running for Groetelaers as MACU lead 2-0.
  • In the third inning, MACU added two more with a lead off runner coming from Adam Hanan after another Evangel batter was hit by a pitch. A walk from Giacalone and a single from Krepcik loaded the bags. Julio Felix took a pitch to the arm for an RBI walk to score Hanan from third. Groetelaers sacrifice fly scored a fourth run, but MACU left the bases loaded to end the inning.
  • With two outs in the fourth inning, Giacalone singled through the left side and stole second. Krepcik scored him with a stand-up double to right field for a 5-0 advantage.
  • After a scoreless fifth inning from MACU, the sixth saw the final two runs come across starting with a pair of singles from Hanan and Giacalone. Krepcik continued his stellar day with an RBI single to score Kinnaman again who was in pinch running. After Krepcik stole second, he eventually made it home from a throwing error by the Bobcats' pitcher.
  • Fabian Hernandez closed out the seventh inning with a fly out and consecutive strikeouts for MACU's fourth shutout of the season.
 
GAME NOTES
  • MACU dominated the batter's box by a 10-4 margin. Both teams recorded an error while MACU left 10 runners on base to COFO's seven.   
  • Fabian Hernandez pitched his first complete game of the season while also recording his first win. Hernandez finished with 116 pitches, while recording 10 strikeouts on two walks. He gave up just four hits while allowing zero earned runs.
  • The Evangels had a few multi-hit batters led by Cole Krepcik who went 3-4 with two RBIs and a run to cap off a six-hit afternoon. Frankie Giacalone finished 2-3 with two runs and a walk. While Sammy Hallada also chipped in two hits on a 2-3 game with an RBI.
  • Mid-America Christian holds a 5-1 all-time record against College of the Ozarks including winning five consecutive against the Bobcats.
