Women’s Soccer Drops First Road Contest at Columbia

COLUMBIA, MO. – The MACU Women's Soccer team suffered its largest defeat of the young season in the Evangels' first road game at Columbia in a 6-0 result on Thursday evening.

MATCH SUMMARY
  • First Half
    • Columbia controlled the possession from the opening whistle as Niamh Taylor was forced into her first save just three minutes into the contest. The Cougars scored their first in the eighth minute as the center forward Ella Bredensteiner notched her seventh goal of the season.
    • The Cougars added two more in a 90-second span as the second came from Macie Vincent, and the third ended as an Evangel own goal.
    • Brae Baker registered the first shot on goal in the 19th minute as MACU looked for some offense. However, the opposing goalkeeper was equal to her shot attempt. Taylor came up big on three more occasions before the halftime break to keep MACU's deficit at three.
  • Second Half
    • The Evangels looked to overcome their second 3-0 halftime deficit of the season as Liv Houlston tested the Cougar goalkeeper two minutes into the half. However, the fourth Columbia goal was scored in the 51st minute to halt the comeback pursuit.
    • Ariana Solorio started the half for MACU and was forced into a few saves before the fifth Cougar goal came in the 70th minute. Columbia added one more in the 83rd for a 6-0 final score.
MATCH NOTES
  • Columbia dominated the shots category by a 27-10 margin and 15 shots on goal to the MACU's five.
  • Brae Baker recorded five total shots with two of them on target. Liv Houlston fired off three shots with a pair on frame. Parker Hefti had the fifth MACU shot on goal.  
  • Niamh Taylor played the opening 45 minutes and made four saves while conceding three. Ariana Solorio played the final 45 minutes and conceded the other three but made five saves.       
  • MACU falls to 0-3-1 all-time against Columbia as the Evangels are still in search of their first victory over the Cougars.

  • Mid-America Christian stays on the road for another big matchup as the Evangels face Hastings in Nebraska on Saturday evening for a 5:30 P.M. kickoff.
