Women’s Soccer Falls to Hastings in 3-1 Result

HASTINGS, Neb. – The MACU Women's Soccer team wrapped up its weekend trip up North with a 3-1 defeat to Hastings on Saturday night in Nebraska.

MATCH SUMMARY
  • First Half
    • MACU started on the front foot with an early corner and shot. However, Hastings converted from the penalty spot in the 10th minute. Followed by a second goal 60 seconds later for an early 2-0 lead.
    • Lexi Swetz forced a few saves from the Hastings' goalkeeper, but the Broncos got a third goal in the 25th minute for a controlling 3-0 advantage.
    • Swetz challenged the Bronco goal once again before halftime; Stephanie Arrivillaga fired a shot just high, but the Evangels faced a 3-0 deficit at the halftime break.
  • Second Half
    • Mid-America Christian looked for its second 3-0 halftime comeback as Rosina Mastro got the Evangels on the board in the 48th minute after a beautiful feed from the leading assister, Liv Houlston.
    • Brae Baker and Lexi Swetz forced a couple more saves out of the goal tender as MACU knocked on the door for its second. A series of corners came in from Houlston, but the Evangels were unable to convert in the 65th minute.
    • The Evangels ran out of offensive fire power down the stretch and suffered a 3-1 final score on the road against Hastings.
MATCH NOTES
  • Hastings held a narrow 15-12 shot margin, and 8-5 shots on goal margin. However, MACU had seven corner kicks to the Broncos' one.
  • Rosina Mastro scored her second goal of the season on her lone shot. Brae Baker and Lexi Swetz both notched a pair of shots on target as well.
  • After leading the Evangels with eight assists last season, Liv Houlston registered her third assist this season on the Mastro goal.
  • Ariana Solorio made her first start in between the posts for MACU and recorded five saves on the eight shots she faced.
  • MACU falls to 0-2 all-time against Hastings after the Broncos 3-2 win over the Evangels at the Dill Soccer Field a season ago.
