Women’s Soccer Bounces Back with Dominant 10-1 Outing Against University of the Southwest

OKLAHOMA CITY – The MACU Women's Soccer team avenged its loss from last weekend by scoring 10 unanswered goals highlighted by a Brae Baker hat trick in a 10-1 thrashing on Wednesday evening at the Dill Soccer Field.

SCORING SUMMARY MATCH SUMMARY
  • First Half
    • The Mustangs came out of the blocks firing with the early spell of possession paying off as USW scored the opener in the fifth minute. A distance shot from outside the box found the top left corner for the early 1-0 lead.
    • However, MACU responded well since the early concession with a large part of the possession. The equalizer came from Brae Baker in the 16th minute who followed up her rebound after the save.
    • The Evangels got the go-ahead goal in the 35th minute as a pair of substitutes combined for the 2-1 lead. Madison Chavez's shot struck the cross bar as the rebound fell straight to Anjelic Gonzalez who made no mistake at the back post to give MACU the halftime lead.
  • Second Half
    • The second half onslaught started just 57 seconds into the half as Baker added to her tally after a selfless pass in from Lena Kucken. Baker's hat trick came in the 55th minute, this time coming from the left fullback Addi Botello who found Brae open at the back post.
    • Lexi Swetz drew a penalty in the 64th after a brilliant run starting from the midfield. Swetz converted from 12 yards out in the top right corner.
    • In the 67th minute, center back Parker Hefti smashed in a finish at the back post for her first career MACU goal to make it 6-1 Evangels. A minute and a half later, Swetz scored her second of the contest with the assist coming from Abby Sonne.
    • The Evangels scored their eighth and ninth in a 60 second span. Chavez and Gonzalez combined once more as this time it was Madison on the end of Anjelic's pass. Morgan Higgins joined the scoring in the 72nd for her first collegiate goal as Madison Chavez credited her second assist.
    • Chavez capped off a career game with her second goal of the season in the 75th minute to make it 10-1. Gonzalez added a second assist to her goal for a four-point outing.
MATCH NOTES
  • MACU dominated the shot margin and put up a season-high 32 shots and 22 shots on goal. USW managed 14 shots with six on target.
  • Brae Baker led the Evangels offensively with her third career hat trick to bring her season goal total to five. Baker registered 10 shots with eight on frame. Lexi Swetz and Madison Chavez contributed two goals apiece. Parker Hefti, Morgan Higgins, and Anjelic Gonzalez all scored their first goal in Evangel colors.
  • Chavez and Gonzalez led MACU with two assists each off the bench. Mikayla Van Blaricom, Stephanie Arrivillaga, Abby Sonne, Lexi Swetz, Lena Kucken, Addi Botello, and Liv Houlston also dished out an assist.
  • Niamh Taylor played the first 65 minutes and made four saves. Ariana Solorio cleaned up the final 25 minutes and added one save.      
  • Mid-America Christian reached double digit scoring for the first time since the 2020 season in a 10-2 blowout against Oklahoma Panhandle State on Nov. 6th, 2020.
  • MACU extended its all-time series record against USW to 3-0, with this being the first meeting since the 2023 season.
