Aug, 28, 2007

8/28/07 - WEATHERFORD, Okla. - The Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels opened their 2007 season on the road against the Southwestern Oklahoma State University Lady Bulldogs. On the road against NCAA Division II SWOSU, the Lady Evangels made a late rally, but fell short in the end to begin the season 0-1.

MACU struggled early, falling down two games to none, but won the next two games before falling in the fifth game. The Lady Evangels were a woman down in the first game and it showed could not overcome the loss. Also complicating matters was a new rotation which took a little time for the Lady Evangels to become comfortable.

MACU trailed early 15-1 in the first game, before stepping it up. The Lady Evangels began to play better, but the deficit proved to be too much to overcome as they lost the first game, 30-16.

"We struggled in the first game," MACU Head Coach Samantha Lindsey stated.

The second game MACU began to get into the flow of things and began to play much better. The game was tight the entire contest, however SWOSU pulled away late and won 30-21, taking a commanding 2-0 lead on the Lady Evangels.

In a must-win third game, the Lady Evangels answered leading the entire game and taking the game 30-26.

"We finally started playing together," Lindsey said.

The fourth game was another tight contest with SWOSU taking a 24-21 lead. However, MACU refused to quit as they scored nine out of the last thirteen points winning the game 30-28 and forcing a fifth game.

The fifth game was a struggle for the Lady Evangels and could never recover losing the fifth game, 15-8.

"It was disappointing to lose the fifth game, but I am excited about our team," Lindsey said. "I feel we can play with anybody right now."
