Volleyball drops season opener to Sterling, 3-1

Oklahoma City, Okla.  -- The Mid-America Christian Lady Evangels opened the season with a 3-1 loss to the Sterling (Kan.) Lady Warriors Saturday afternoon (Aug. 27) at the Gaulke Activity Center.

The Lady Warriors won by scores of 25-17, 25-18, 19-25 & 25-16.

After Sterling took the opening set, the Lady Evangels found themselves down 20-10 in the second when they responded by scoring six of the next seven points to claw within 21-16.

But the Lady Warriors regained control by finishing the set winning four of the last six points.

The third set went the Lady Evangels' way, as they led most of the way and a service ace by Calle Solie helped them close the set out 25-19.

However, the Lady Evangels didn't quite have enough left in the tank in the fourth set as the Lady Warriors closed out the match 25-16.

The Lady Evangels will next host a scrimmage against NCAA D-II member Southwestern Oklahoma State at 5 p.m. Monday night (Aug. 29) before travelling to Sherman, Texas to play St. Gregory's and Austin College next Thursday night (Sept. 1) at 6 & 8 p.m.
