OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Oklahoma City Unversity Stars rallied to win the last two sets to slip by the Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels on Senior Night and Dig Pink Night Tuesday night (Oct. 30) at the Gaulke Activity Center.
OCU responded by taking control of the second with a 12-1 spurt that turned a 9-9 tie into a 21-10 cushion. Two kills each by Tori Leisure and Rachel Gabel fueled the surge. The Stars went on to a 25-12 win in the set.
The Stars led 19-16 in the third set but two kills by
Calle Solie helped the Lady Evangels score four of the next five points to even the score at 20-20.
Shelbie Wright then produced three kills as the Lady Evangels ended the set on a 5-2 run to win 25-22 and go up 2-1 in the match.
But it was Healy and Leisure that had an answer as they combined for four more kills to spark a 9-2 run that gave the Stars a commanding 20-12 lead and they went on to a 25-18 win to square the match at 2-2.
Gabel again came through with three kills early in the decisive fifth set to help the Stars (14-21, 4-7 SAC) jump out to a 6-2 lead and they never looked back in taking the set 15-11.
Walker and
Jordan Batley each had a team-high nine kills to lead the Lady Evangels. Solie had 35 assists and
Jenny Pratt led four Lady Evangels with double-digit digs with a match-high tying 22. Crockett had 17 digs, with Batley recording 13 and Walker 11.
