OKLAHOMA CITY -- Mid-America Christian University seniors
Becca Anderson (Cleburne, Texas) and
Calle Solie (Glendale, Ariz.) have been named to the Daktronics NAIA Volleyball Scholar Athlete team, the organization announced today.
In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status to qualify for this honor.
Anderson maintained a 3.85 grade-point-average with a major in Math/Business Administration at MACU. Despite missing the final six matches with an injury, she still ranked second on the Lady Evangels in kills (188) this season and led the team in solo blocks (31) and tied for team-high honors in total blocks (137). Her 137 blocks also tied for second in the Sooner Athletic Conference and her 1.49 blocks per game ranks fifth in NAIA Division I. Anderson holds the MACU career record for blocks (397) and is second all-time in kills (761) since the school joined the NAIA.
Solie majors in English/Business Administration and has a 3.96 GPA. She ranks fourth in the SAC in assists per set (7.8) this year and also fourth on the team in assisted blocks (45). She is the school's all-time record holder in career assists (3670) and digs (966), while also holding the single-season mark in assists (1170) and single-game assists (54) since MACU joined the NAIA.
The senior duo played a big part in helping the Lady Evangels record their most victories this season (18) since the program joined the NAIA and advance to the NCCAA Central Regional title game for the first time since 2009.
