John Brown Rallies for 3-1 Win over Volleyball Lady Evangels

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels took the first set from the John Brown University Golden Eagles, but from there the Golden Eagles won the next three for a 3-1 win in Sooner Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon (Nov. 2) inside the Gaulke Activity Center.

The first set was tightly contested with 16 ties before the Lady Evangels went ahead for good on a kill by Kahdejah Henry that made it 21-20.  A kill by Kacee Montgomery and a service ace from Hannah Luedtke then fueled MACU to a 25-22 opening set victory.

But the Golden Eagles quickly took control of the second set with nine straight points to lead 13-4 and went on to a 25-12 win to even the match.

The third set went much like the second, with JBU taking command with an 8-0 spurt that turned a 7-7 tie into a 15-7 edge.  JBU then took the lead in the match with a 25-14 win in the third set.

MACU hung around in the fourth set, trailing only 14-11 when the Golden Eagles used a 10-2 burst to take charge and won the match with a 25-15 win in the fourth.

Montgomery led the Lady Evangels with nine kills, while Luedtke had a team-high 23 assists.  Larissa Runyan led the Lady Evangels with 10 digs.

Molli Pugh led three Golden Eagles in double-figure kills with 13 and Shayna Daniels recorded a match-high 31 assists.  Kailey Bain also had 21 assists.

The Lady Evangels will next be at Oklahoma City University on Tuesday night (Nov. 5) at 7 p.m.
