OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Mid-America Christian University volleyball program has signed Shawnee, Okla. native Mary Burkhead for next season, head coach Mike Freeman has announced.

Burkhead comes to MACU after competing for the Liberty High School Eagles, where she was an All-State selection in both volleyball and basketball.

She also helped the Volleyball Eagles capture the state championship the last two seasons.

A solid student-athlete, Burkhead is a member of the National Technical Honor Society and was her senior class salutatorian.  She was also a STEM award recipient.

"Mary will fill one of our middle blocker positions as we lost both of ours from last year to graduation. She has experience at the position as well as height so we expect great things from her," Freeman said.

She is the daughter of Randy and Becky Burkhead and plans to major in Business with an emphasis in Sports Management at MACU.
