Volleyball Lady Evangels Wrap Up Season on High Note with 3-1 Win Over Central Christian

Bartlesville, Okla. -- Playing in her final career game at Mid-America Christian University, senior Hannah Luedtke went out with a bang by recording a triple-double of 10 kills, 38 assists and a career-high 27 digs to lead the Lady Evangels to a 3-1 victory over the Central Christian College Tigers today (Nov. 20) at the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Central Regional Tournament in Bartlesville, Okla.

The victory assures the Lady Evangels of their first .500 season (16-16) since 2012 and only their second since joining the NAIA in 2007.

The Lady Evangels led a tight opening set 23-21 when two kills from Laurel Church helped close it out 25-22 and put MACU on top.

Leading in the second set 17-16, the Lady Evangels powered to the finish with eight of the final nine points to win 25-17 and take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Central Christian fought back and stayed alive by finishing the third on a 5-1 spurt behind two kills and a service ace by Haley Bannister for a 25-22 win.

It was the Lady Evangels that staged a rally in the fourth set when after falling behind 15-7, four kills from Emily Lynch and three kills each from Luedtke and Church fueled a 18-6 burst that closed out the match 25-21.

With the fourth set knotted at 21-21, a kill from Lynch,  Mary Burkhead and consecutive kills by Luedtke finished the set.

Church had a team-high 16 kills to lead the Lady Evangels and Lynch added 12 kills and 10 digs. Camera Broadnax recorded a team-high 23 digs and Larissa Runyan also reached double-figures with 11 digs.

Bannister led everyone with 28 kills and the Tigers got 38 assists from Hannah Crandall. Ciara Costello led the Tigers with 22 digs.

In addition to losing Luedtke, the Lady Evangels also say goodbye to Broadnax, who has led the Lady Evangels in digs the past two seasons.

The Lady Evangels though expect to be well-stocked for next season under head coach Mike Freeman with the return of virtually every other letterwinner on the team this season.
