Albuquerque, Johnson, Henry Named to CoSIDA Academic All-America Team

AUSTIN, Texas – The Mid-America Christian men's soccer team had two players selected to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) NAIA Academic All-America Team in Rodrigo Albuquerque and Dejue Johnson while MACU women's soccer's Kelsey Henry was also selected to the women's team on Tuesday.

To be named to the esteemed list, a student-athlete must maintain a 3.40 cumulative grade-point average and are voted upon by CoSIDA member schools based off of academic and athletic prowess.

On the men's side, Albuquerque has broken every offensive record in the MACU record books during his third season with the program. With 15 goals and nine assists, the Recife, Brazil native was named the Sooner Athletic Conference Player of the Year during the 2021 campaign.

Albuquerque has been a multiple award recipient by garnering the SAC Co-Offensive Player of the Year honor in 2020 while being named to the All-SAC First Team three times, an NCCAA All-American First Team honoree twice (2021 awards TBA) and was also an NAIA All-American Honorable Mention in 2020.

In three seasons with the program, Albuquerque already owns the MACU program records in goals (47), assists (22), points (116), shots (289), shots on-goal (146) and game-winning goals (19).

Academically, Albuquerque is a Business Administration major and has amassed a 3.70 GPA. It is the fifth academic award of his career after being named an NCCAA Scholar-Athlete in 2020 as well as a NAIA, NCCAA and SAC Scholar-Athlete in 2021.

On the defensive side of the field, Johnson has been a stalwart defender that has been a key piece of some of the greatest defenses the MACU men's soccer program has ever put together.

A three-time SAC Defensive Player of the Year, Johnson once again was a crucial part of a defense that allowed just 1.05 goals per game with opponents attempting just 7.9 shots with just 3.1 of those attempts landing on-goal.

In his previous seasons with MACU, the Linstead, Jamaica native was part of a defense that allowed 0.92 goals per game in the Evangels' run to the 2019 NCCAA National Championship and was a key piece of an even better defense in 2020 that gave up only 0.82 goals per game in reaching the final 10 in the NAIA National Championships.

Johnson is a Psychology major at MACU and holds a 3.72 cumulative GPA. Johnson is a two-time NCCAA and SAC Scholar-Athlete and garnered NAIA Scholar-Athlete acclaim in 2021.

For the MACU women's soccer team, Henry has been one of the top offensive producers in the last two seasons for the Evangels.

Over the course of the 2021 campaign, the Arima, Trinidad & Tobago native led the team with eight goals and four assists while also notching a pair of game-winners.

In three seasons with the Evangels, Henry will be graduating as the program's ninth-most prolific goal-scorer (26), sixth in assists (14) and ninth in points (66). The 5-5 forward finished as one of the most effective goal scorers as she ranks second in the MACU record book in shooting percentage (.248) and fourth in shots on-goal percentage (.590)

Henry is wrapping up her illustrious career as an NCCAA First Team All-American and a two-time All-SAC First Team performer while also being an NAIA Scholar-Athlete as well as a two-time NCCAA and SAC Scholar-Athlete.

So far during her collegiate career, Henry has accumulated a 3.88 GPA while majoring in Biology.
