OKLAHOMA CITY – The Sooner Athletic Conference announced its Sports Information Director of the Year for the 2020-21 season as Adam Stanek from Mid-America Christian was tabbed with the honor on Thursday.
After completing his second year at MACU, Stanek is collecting his first SAC SID of the Year award and is the first from Mid-America Christian to earn the accolade.
Becoming the eighth honoree since 2014, the award serves to recognize outstanding sports information professionals that are selected by the SIDs of the league's 12 full-time institutions.
"I cannot speak highly enough of the job Adam has done for our athletic department," said MACU Athletic Director Marcus Moeller. "On top of being the definition of a team player, Adam never seeks individual praise, has an incredible work ethic and represents our University with kindness, care and class. I congratulate Adam for being an excellent representative of Mid-America Christian in being named the Sooner Athletic Conference SID of the Year."
Stanek's primary duties at MACU is the promotion of the program's seven varsity programs that are dual-affiliated with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA).
"I am honored to be chosen as the recipient for this award," said Stanek. "I can honestly say that working alongside my colleagues in the SAC has been a remarkable experience and I am thankful for their support. They are a great group of SIDs and I am looking forward to the opportunities to work alongside them in the future. I'd personally like to thank Marcus Moeller for the faith that he has placed in me to lead MACU's athletic promotions. I am so blessed to work for Mid-America Christian University and I am so thankful God had directed me here when I came to Oklahoma City in 2019. I'd also like to thank Rich Tortorelli for giving me the opportunity to serve alongside him in the Sooner Athletic Conference. It has been a pleasure to work with Rich in promoting the SAC and look forward to what the future has in-store for our league."
On-top of running MACU's athletic website (macuathletics.com) and social media platforms, Stanek also serves as the university's official statistician while also providing the play-by-play broadcasting commentary for baseball, softball and volleyball as well as public address announcing for baseball and softball games.
Stanek is an active contributor toward Mid-America Christian University's quarterly magazine, the Mid-American, writing feature stories highlighting the news and accomplishments of the MACU athletic department during the academic year.
During the 2020-21 season, Stanek had the opportunity to promote the men's soccer program that won the SAC Tournament Championship and advanced to the final site of the NAIA National Championships, the women's basketball team that won a share of the SAC regular season title and the softball team in winning its first ever NCCAA National Championship.
A native of Hillsboro, Wis., Stanek also serves as the assistant SID of the Sooner Athletic Conference, where he has been primarily tasked with preparing press releases for award winners and postseason recaps as well as performing website maintenance for the new SIDEARM conference site that was introduced in December.
Prior to the start of the 2020-21 academic year, Stanek spearheaded the expansion of MACU's Team of the Decade honors to cover all seven of its varsity sports as well as men's golf, an honor that was limited previously to just men's and women's basketball. Stanek has also taken the initiative of creating a directory for MACU's student-athlete award winners, a championship directory and is in the process of creating digital record books for the MACU Athletics SIDEARM site that was introduced in June of 2019.
Stanek also helped lead the way for MACU to become one of the first members of the SAC Sports Network, a streaming platform operated by BlueFrame Technology where more than half of the full-time members in the league stream their athletic events.
On top of his duties with Mid-America Christian, Stanek was proactive in assisting the NAIA, NCCAA and SAC during the 2020-21 academic year. Stanek organized the NCCAA Division I All-Central Region balloting for men's and women's basketball, served as a statistician at the Red Dirt Softball Classic hosted by Langston at the USA Softball Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City from Mar. 5-6, as well as provided stating and game day operations for both the SAC Softball Tournament and NAIA Softball Tournament held at Oklahoma City University in May.
With the NAIA Women's Golf National Championships being moved from Ypsilanti, Mich. to Rose Creek Golf Club in Edmond, Okla. from May 25-28 with a months' notice, Stanek assisted Oklahoma City University and the NAIA with the event by creating highlight reels for each round of the event, provided score update graphics for social media and verified competitor scorecards at the end of each round.
Overall, Stanek will be entering his third year as the SID at Mid-America Christian and his eighth in the sports information field after previously working for Eastern New Mexico, Keiser (Fla.), Arkansas Tech and Winona State (Minn.). Stanek is also a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
