CHICKASHA, Okla. – The Mid-America Christian women's soccer team battled hard against the top team in the Sooner Athletic Conference, but the Evangels dropped their first Sooner Athletic Conference game of the season in a 2-0 defeat at McLaughlin Field on Friday night.

MATCH SUMMARY
- Science & Arts had the first good look at the go-ahead goal 56 seconds in, but MACU goalkeeper Makayla Farquharson made a strong leaping save on Alicia Rey's opening shot toward the crossbar.
- Farquharson tallied a pair of saves in the 26th and 30th minutes to keep the Drovers off the board in the opening 45.
- Mid-America Christian's best opportunity in the first half came in the 36th minute when Daniela Paez delivered a great cross from the left side to Kadin Stinson near right post, but her header toward the top left corner sailed just high to keep it to a scoreless game going into half.
- MACU's first great chance in the second half came in the 52nd minute when a right side cross found an open Kealy Juarez breaking toward the left post, but USAO's keeper Caitlyn Bishop blocked the open shot at the point of attack to keep it to a scoreless score.
- In the 55th minute, the Drovers scored the first goal of the match when Emma Rice crossed it into Alicia Rey, who powered the shot through two MACU defenders to make it a 1-nil game.
- Rey had a great chance to score her second just a minute later, but Farquharson made a stellar diving save toward the right post to keep it to a one-goal game.
- The Drovers extended their advantage to two after the Evangels were called for a foul inside the 18-yard box, setting up a penalty kick for Emma Rice, who placed it inside the left post to make it a 2-0 game.
- The Evangels' best chance at cutting into the Drovers lead came in the 81st minute when Kanasa Spybuck ran down a loose ball on the right side of the box, but her sliding shot hit off the right post before being snared by Bishop.
MATCH NOTES
- Science & Arts held the shooting advantage against the Evangels at 14-8 with an 8-2 margin in shots on-goal.
- Makayla Farquharson suffered the loss in-goal, conceding two goals and making six saves for a .750 save percentage for the match.
- Francesca Martella and Kanasa Spybuck led the MACU offensive efforts with two shots apiece while Martella and Kealy Juarez were the only two Evangel players to place shots on-goal.
- The loss for MACU dropped the Evangels to 4-8-1 overall with a 3-1-1 SAC mark while the Drovers improved to 10-1-1 and 5-0 against SAC foes.
- MACU suffered its first loss at McLaughlin Field since the Drovers picked up a 7-0 victory on Nov. 12, 2019.

- Mid-America Christian will return home on Tuesday to open a three-match home stand as the Evangels will face its second straight ranked opponent in No. 24 John Brown. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Dill Soccer Field.
