Men’s Soccer, Women’s Soccer, Volleyball Earn NCCAA Scholar Team Honors

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The National Christian Collegiate Athletic Association (NCCAA) announced its 2021 Fall Scholar Teams on Wednesday as the Mid-America Christian men's soccer, women's soccer and volleyball teams all found themselves on the esteemed list.

To be selected as an NCCAA Scholar Team, a program must maintain a team cumulative grade-point average of 3.40 or higher during the semester(s) of competition.

The MACU women's soccer program boasted the highest team GPA of all seven women's soccer teams named to the list, earning a 3.69 GPA during the fall semester.

The Evangels are coming off another highly successful 2021 campaign, finishing the season with a 11-9 record and won the program's fifth NCCAA Central Region Championship after defeating Central Christian 2-1 on Nov. 19, 2021 in McPherson, Kan.

The Evangels men's soccer program were also in an elite class of just three men's soccer teams named to the NCCAA Scholar Team list, as MACU also possessed the highest grade-point-average of all men's soccer programs at 3.57.

MACU men's soccer is coming off its winningest season in program history, closing out the 2021 campaign with a 19-1-1 overall record and finished ninth in the NAIA Top 25. The Evangels went 8-0-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference play to win the program's first ever SAC regular season title and won the program's third SAC Tournament Championship with a 2-0 victory over Southwestern Christian at Dill Field on Nov. 11, 2021.

The MACU volleyball program continued to see exceeding success both on the court and in the classroom. The Evangels were one of eight volleyball programs recognized by the NCCAA after turning in a 3.49 team GPA during the fall semester.

Mid-America Christian is coming off its most successful season since joining the NAIA and moving up to the NCCAA Division I level in 2007, as the Evangels finished the year with a 30-9 overall record and narrowly missed winning the program's first ever NCCAA National Championship after falling in a hard-fought 3-0 match to Columbia International (S.C.) in the championship match in Point Lookout, Mo. on Dec. 4, 2021.

The Evangels put together a phenomenal run at the NCCAA National Championships, winning Pool A after coming away with a 3-2 win over Judson (Ill.) and a pair 3-0 sweep over Warner (Fla.) and No. 24 Bethel (Ind.) before topping Campbellsville 3-1 in the semifinal match.

As a whole, Mid-America Christian University was only one of five affiliated institutions to place three or more teams on the NCCAA Fall Scholar Team list.
