2022-23 Season Recaps

Fall 2022 Rocket League

Last fall, the Rocket League squad put together a season for the ages by winning three separate championships while competing in the NACE (National Association of Collegiate Esports), the NECC (National Esports Collegiate Conference) and the Oklahoma Association of Collegiate Esports (OACE).

The Rocket League team's first title came on Nov. 19 against Oklahoma City in the OACE Grand Finals. After going 6-2 in OACE play during the regular season, the squad picked up a 3-0 win over Cameron (Okla.) in the OACE Quarterfinals before topping Rogers State (Okla.) 3-0 in the Semifinals on Nov. 8.

After squeaking out a 3-2 win over the Stars during the regular season, the Evangels took care of business in the title match, sweeping the first three games in the best of five bout to earn the program's first ever championship.

Nine days later, the Rocket League team brought home gold for the second time, claiming the NACE Starleague East 3 Championship. Going 4-2 during the regular season against NACE competition, the Evangels advanced to the title tilt after defeating Minnesota State in a thrilling best of seven Semifinal on Nov. 14.

In the Championship match on Nov. 28, the Evangels were battle-proven from their big win over the Mavericks as MACU defeated the Kansas Jayhawks 4-1 to claim the title.

The final of the MACU Fall Rocket League championships came in the NECC Emergents Central division. The Evangels thoroughly dominated the regular season, going 12-0 while dropping just three total games combined in the best-of-three matches all season.

MACU was just as dominant during the NECC Playoffs, sweeping New Mexico State 3-0 in the Quarterfinal on Nov. 18, sweeping Houston-Downtown 3-0 in the Semifinal on Dec. 2 and in a best-of-seven series for the Championship match, the Evangels topped Health Science & Pharmacy (Mo.) in four games on Dec. 9.

In the three leagues combined, the Rocket League team boasted an astonishing 30-4 overall record.

Fall 2022 League of Legends

The Fall League of Legends team claimed its first regular season title after going 9-2 in the NECC Navigators South division.

After getting off to a 2-2 start to the campaign, the League of Legends squad found its footing against the Alabama Crimson Tide with the clean sweep in the best of three match. It became a common trend for the Evangels as MACU swept eight of its last nine regular season campaigns with the lone lost game coming a 2-1 victory over Emporia State (Kan.) on Oct. 19.

In the NECC Playoffs, the Evangels took care of business in the Quarterfinals against North Alabama with a 2-0 victory on Nov. 16, but MACU saw its stellar season come to an end in the Semifinal with a 2-0 loss to Southern Miss on Nov. 30.

Fall 2022 Overwatch

The Fall Overwatch team wrapped up its fall with a 5-4 overall record during its NACE season. The Evangels managed to get to the second round of postseason play after topping Manchester (Ind.) 3-0 in the Quarterfinals, but saw their season come to an end in the NACE Semifinals against Butler (Ind.) with a 3-0 defeat.

Fall 2022 Super Smash Bros.

The Fall Super Smash Bros. team got off to a strong start to the season, winning two of its first three matches with 2-0 victories over UNT Dallas on Sept. 29 and Irvine Valley (Calif.) on Oct. 6. However, the Evangels struggled to pick up a win the rest of the way, wrapping up the year with a 2-6 mark in NACE play.

Spring 2023 Overwatch

The spring season was a stellar one for the Overwatch team in the NACE Varsity Plus East 6 division. After going a perfect 7-0 during NACE competition in the regular season, the Evangels were just as strong in postseason play.

Facing Columbia (S.C.) in the NACE Semifinals, the Evangels maintained control from beginning to end by winning three straight in the best of five series on Apr. 11, setting MACU up with a Championship bout against Manchester (Ind.) on Apr. 18.

Mid-America Christian did drop its first game during postseason play in the championship series, but MACU was still a forced to be reckoned with as the Evangels claimed the 3-1 victory for the squad's first ever title.

Spring Rocket League

The Rocket League team competed in both the NACE and OACE during the spring seasons. The Evangels amassed a 3-5 record against NACE competition while going 5-5 in OACE play.
