MACU Esports Fall 2025 Playoffs Recap

OKLAHOMA CITY - MACU Esports' program closed out the fall postseason with strong performances, highlighted by deep playoff runs and competitive showings in each division.

While no team secured a tournament championship this fall, the program's history of success continues to reflect its strength and stability. The Rocket League, League of Legends, Overwatch 2, and Super Smash Bros teams now look ahead to a new spring season with renewed focus and momentum.

Rocket League

The Evangels' Rocket League squad: Jadon Maxwell (Brainz), Javier Cerillo Soto (Cl0ver), and Mason Kilpatrick (Irish1256) entered the postseason after finishing the regular season 6-1 and winning a share of the regular-season title in the NACE Varsity Plus East 4 Conference.

By having previously swept both the regular-season and tournament titles four times, the MACU Rocket League squad has continued to show its strength and consistency throughout the program's history. The team opened the tournament with a 3-1 victory over Florida Southern, advancing to the final round. In the final, the Evangels fell 3-1 to Florida Tech, finishing the tournament as runners-up after a competitive postseason performance.

Despite the loss in the championship match, the squad delivered a strong season built on consistent play, communication, and disciplined teamwork.

Overwatch 2

The Overwatch 2 roster: Rushell Herrera (SpicyGhost), Aaron Dodson (Immortal), Lantis Wolfe (EwMantis), Hayden Linville (Golden), and Christian Martinez (FlyingXyzan), closed its season with a 6-1 regular-season record, entering the playoffs as one of the top teams in the NACE Varsity Plus East 5 Conference.

After receiving a first-round bye, the Evangels defeated Florida Tech 3-0 in the semifinal. The team's postseason run ended with a loss to Samford in the final.

The Evangels finished second in the conference and look ahead to a promising spring season.

League of Legends

The League of Legends lineup made of: Jadon Maxwell (Brainz), Angel Hernandez (Keru), Jorge Rios (ThoricFish), James Orquiz (ExiledMex), and Alanna Winston (Airyn) completed the fall regular season with a 3-3 record in the NACE Varsity Plus East 3 Conference.

Despite roster adjustments and limited time to build synergy, the Evangels advanced to the quarterfinals and defeated UNC Greensboro 2-0. Their run ended in the semifinal with a 2-0 loss to top-seeded Ferris State.

The fall season served as a key development period for the team as it continues to build experience and cohesion.

Super Smash Bros.

The Super Smash Bros. squad: James Orquiz (ExiledMex), Elijah Bates (DaBaptist), Jackson Zamora (ClassicJack), and Jack Search (SomeJohn) finished the regular season 3-4 in the NACE Varsity Plus West-Central 2 Conference.

After battling through a challenging schedule, the Evangels earned enough wins to reach the quarterfinal round, where they were defeated 2-0 by South Alberta Tech.

With added experience and renewed focus, the team plans to return stronger for the spring 2026 season.
