Esports Fall 2025 Regular Season Recap: Rocket League Wins NACE Varsity Plus East 4 Title

OKLAHOMA CITY - The MACU Esports programs wrapped up a highly successful Fall 2025  regular season, with all teams qualifying for the playoffs. Under the leadership of head coach Daniel Peaslee, the Evangels continued to show excellence across all its programs with the teams combining for a 17-10 overall record.

Rocket League

The Rocket League trio of Jadon Maxwell (Brainz), Javier Cerrillo Soto (Cl0ver), and Mason Kilpatrick (Irish1256) once again went on a rampage, capturing another NACE Varsity Plus East 4 regular season title.

Finishing with an impressive 6-1 overall record, the Evangels tied for first place with Florida Tech, but ultimately secured the top spot by conceding fewer total rounds. Over the course of the season, the team achieved a 17-3 rounds won-to-lost ratio, showcasing dominant consistency. Its only defeat came in a close 3-2 loss to Florida Tech, but thanks to a crucial upset by South Florida against Florida Tech, MACU reclaimed its momentum and closed out the title race in style.

Demonstrating skill, discipline, and composure, the Evangels enter the playoffs as the team to beat. Jadon Maxwell (Brainz) stood out as the season's MVP, leading both in-game and off-screen. His exceptional performance included scoring eight of the team's nine goals in a commanding 3-0 victory over Northwest Missouri State to wrap-up the regular season. Javier Cerillo Soto (Cl0ver) continued to impress with his reliable leadership and versatility on both offense and defense, while newcomer Mason Kilpatrick (Irish1256) proved himself to be a valuable addition, showing growth, adaptability, and steady contributions in every match.

With their cohesive teamwork and unwavering drive, the Rocket League squad heads into the postseason with confidence and a clear goal: another championship. With MACU capturing the No. 1 seed, the Evangels will have a bye from the NACE Quarterfinals and will likely face the winner of the Northwest Missouri State/Grand Valley State quarter on Tuesday, Nov. 11.

Overwatch 2

The Overwatch 2 team led by captains Rushell Herrera (SpicyGhost) and Aaron Dodson (Immortal), alongside Lantis Wolfe (EwMantis), Christian Martinez (FlyingXyzan), Hayden Linville (Golden), and Kaleb Rogers (REST316), closed their regular season with a stellar 6-1 record, securing second place in the NACE Varsity Plus East 5 group.

Following their championship-winning Spring 2025 campaign, expectations were high and the Evangels did not disappoint. Their only defeat came in a 3-1 result in the season opener against a dominant Samford side that went undefeated in regular season play while MACU was the only team to take a round from Bulldogs. From that point forward, MACU went on a six-match win streak, sweeping multiple opponents including Blinn (Texas) and Jamestown (Va.) with 3-0 victories.

The team displayed exceptional coordination and improved tactical play throughout the season, particularly in their ultimate economy, timing, and defensive rotations. Their growth and synergy have made them one of the most feared teams heading into the playoffs.

As they prepare for the final phase of the season, the Evangels have once again demonstrated that they remain a powerhouse in collegiate Overwatch. With confidence and precision, they aim to reclaim the top spot and bring another title home to Oklahoma City. MACU will have a bye from next week's NACE Quarterfinals before returning to action for the semis slated for Nov. 10.

League of Legends

The League of Legends team concluded its Fall 2025 regular season with a 3-3 record, finishing fourth in the NACE Varsity Plus East 3 Conference and earning a spot in the playoffs.

This split marked a transitional season for the Evangels, who introduced new additions to their roster with Jadon Maxwell (Brainz) in the top lane and Angel Hernandez (Keru) alongside returning leaders Jorge Rios (ThoricFish), Alanna Winston (Airyn), and James Orquiz (ExiledMex).

Throughout the season, MACU recorded convincing wins against LSU Shreveport (2-0), UNC-Greensboro Atlantis, and UNC-Greensboro Olympus. However, the squad faced tougher challenges against higher-seeded teams, falling 2-0 to Florida Tech, Ohio Wesleyan, and Ferris State (Mich.). Despite these setbacks, every match was fiercely contested, often lasting over 35 minutes, reflecting the Evangels' resilience and tenacity.

This young roster continues to show significant promise. Their ability to stay composed in long matches and push top-tier teams to their limits signals a bright future. With continued growth and teamwork, the Evangels are poised to be a serious playoff contender. With playoff pairings to be announced over the weekend, the Evangels will prepare for their NACE Quarterfinal match on Tuesday, Nov. 4.

Super Smash Bros.

The Super Smash Bros. squad endured a challenging split this season, finishing with an overall 2-5 record but still managing to secure a playoff berth by placing sixth in the NACE Varsity Plus West-Central 2 Conference. The roster Elijah Bates (DaBaptist), James Orquiz (ExiledMex), Cesar Stokes (Carnom), Jackson Zamora (ClassicJack), and Jack Search (SomeJohn), battled with determination from start to finish, showing undeniable resilience and teamwork.

The Evangels faced a tough start, dropping their first three matches of the season. However, their persistence paid off as they rallied back with a crucial two-match winning streak, highlighted by a thrilling 2-1 victory over Howard (Washington D.C.). This comeback not only boosted morale but also showcased the team's ability to adapt and grow stronger under pressure.

Throughout the season, the Evangels displayed remarkable grit, rarely losing by large margins. Many of their matches came down to the wire, often leaving just a single opposing player standing. This consistency in close matches speaks volumes about their skill ceiling and competitive mindset.

While the final record may not fully reflect their potential, the Super Smash Bros. squad has proven that with continued practice, strategic refinement, and confidence, they can transform into a true title contender in upcoming seasons. Their journey this split is one of perseverance and progress, and the Evangels are only getting started. With postseason pairings to be announced over the weekend, MACU will be back in-action for the NACE Quarterfinals on Thursday, Nov. 6.

To follow the MACU Esports teams postseason journeys, the matches will be livestreamed to Twitch at MACUEsports over the next three weeks.
