Men’s Basketball Selected to Sioux Center Bracket in NAIA Tournament

OKLAHOMA CITY – The MACU Men's Basketball team will be making its way back to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Tournament for the eighth time in the last 11 years as Mid-America Christian was selected to compete in the Sioux Center, Iowa First and Second Round bracket, announced by the national office on Thursday night.

The Evangels earned an at-large berth after finishing Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament play with a 22-8 overall record and finished in a tie for second in the league standings with a 17-7 league mark.

MACU made it to the SAC Semifinals after defeating another NAIA tourney selection in Texas Wesleyan 81-73 in the quarterfinal round on Feb. 27 before falling in a close battle to SAC Tournament Champion Langston 76-71 in the semifinal round on Monday.

On-top of the win over the Rams, the Evangels picked up some huge resume-building wins over the course of the season, including a 70-52 win over Nelson on Jan. 18, an 88-67 victory over No. 8 Langston on Jan. 20. MACU also got three more quality wins by sweeping the season series against Wayland Baptist on Jan. 11 and Feb. 24 to go along with a victory over John Brown on Jan. 30.

Under 10th-year head coach Josh Gamblin, the Evangels are led by a plethora of top talent heading into the postseason, including the SAC Newcomer of the Year and All-SAC First Team performer in senior guard Josiah Fulcher, an All-SAC Second Team point guard in senior Juwan White and the SAC Defensive Player of the Year in senior combo guard Tarrence Gaines.

The NAIA Tournament First and Second Rounds will take place on March 14-15 as the Evangels received the No. 10 seed and will face a familiar foe in the First Round in No. 7 seed Oklahoma Wesleyan. The first round matchup will take place on March 14 with tip-off slated for 1:30 p.m. inside DeWitt Gymnasium on the campus of Dordt University.
