Aug, 24, 2007

8/24/07 - ADA, Okla. - The Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels were defeated 5-1 in their season opener Friday by the East Central University Lady Tigers.

The loss gives the Lady Evangels a 0-1 record on the young season.

"We played well in the first half," Coach Zach Bice said. "We struggled on making good of our opportunities in the first half."

East Central University scored two goals early to take a 2-0 lead. Immediately following the second goal, the Lady Evangels responded 16 seconds later with a Lindsey McKinney goal coming off an assist by Christina Black. The goal by McKinney was the first of the season for sophomore from Yukon, Oklahoma.

The score brought MACU within one; however the Lady Tigers would score a goal late in the first half to take a 3-1 halftime lead.

The Lady Evangels came out of the locker room trying to get back into the game with a goal of picking up the first win in the history MACU women's soccer. It wasn't to be as East Central University held up their defense and scored two more goals to put the game out of reach.

MACU will play in its home opener Tuesday, August 28 against Oklahoma Wesleyan University. The game will start at 3:00 p.m. at James Curtis Field.
