Lady Evangels Get First Win of the Season

Sept. 13, 2008

9.13.08 - OKLAHOMA CITY, OK- The Lady Evangels defeated Sterling College 3-0 at Evangel Field on Saturday afternoon. The win broke a four game losing streak and brought redemption to the women's team after a disappointing 4-2 lost to Sterling in the Mr. Tee Classic one week ago.

All three of the Lady Evangel goals came in the first half. MACU took the lead early when junior Lindsey McKinney found the back of the net off a through ball from freshman Nicole Farquhar in the eighth minute of play. Lindsey McKinney scored the second goal of the afternoon off a pass from Kaylynn Pursley that put her behind the defense where she was able to beat the goalkeeper in a one-on-one situation. Lindsey Neher scored the final goal of the afternoon in the 42nd minute when she beat the goalkeeper and passed the ball into the goal.

Freshman Raven Benson recorded her first career shutout in college; she had six saves on the day.

The Lady Evangels will play their first home Sooner Athletic Conference match verses Oklahoma Baptist University on Tuesday, September 16th at 2 p.m.

MACU is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and the Sooner Athletic Conference.
