Nimal gives No. 9 Lady Evangels dramatic 1-0 victory over Lubbock Christian

Oklahoma City, Okla. -- Julia Nimal found the net 1:12 into the second overtime period to propel the undefeated and No. 9-ranked (NCCAA) Mid-America Christian Lady Evangels to a dramatic 1-0 win over the Lubbock Christian Lady Chaparrals in Sooner Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon (Oct. 2).
Nimal's game-winner, her team-high tying ninth of the season, came off a feed from Michelle Medina on a set piece after the Lady Chaparrals committed a foul in the 101st minute.

The match between two of the top teams in the SAC didn't disappoint, as it was as competitive as the score would indicate.

LCU controlled things early on, out-shooting the Lady Evangels 10-1.  But MACU reversed that trend and out-shot the Lady Chaparrals 10-5 the rest of the way.

Nimal led the way for the Lady Evangels with a team-best five shots and three shots-on-goal.

Peta-Gaye Soman paced the Lady Chaparrals with five shots also.

Melissa Dobie was instrumental in keeping the Lady Chaparrals off the scoreboard, stopping a season-high nine shots for MACU (9-0, 2-0 SAC).

Lacy Burress made seven saves in the net for the Lady Chaparrals  (7-2, 1-2 SAC).

With their eighth shutout victory of the season, the Lady Evangels continued their remarkable defensive run of allowing only one goal on the season.

The Lady Evangels will look to make it 10 straight victories to open the season by hosting the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in another SAC contest on Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 5) at 1 p.m.
