Mid-America Christian Lady Evangel goalkeeper Melissa Dobie has been awarded the Sooner Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season, the league office announced today.
Dobie was her stellar self this past week, allowing only one goal in 200 minutes in the net during the Lady Evangels' two matches.
The Edmond, Okla. native made four saves in MACU's critical 2-1 at Southern Nazarene last Tuesday (Oct. 26) and then recorded a season-high 12 stops in a 0-0 tie at Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday (Oct. 30).
For the season, Dobie ranks in the top four in the SAC in goals-against-average, saves and saves per game.
Dobie's play in the net has helped the Lady Evangels (14-2-1, 7-2 SAC) be in position to host their first-ever SAC postseason tournament match, which a regular season finale win over Rogers State on Tuesday (Nov. 2) would clinch.
The Lady Evangels are in the midst of their finest season since joining the NAIA and their 14 wins this year already double their win total from the past two seasons combined.
