Oklahoma City, Okla. -- Kelsey Whalen snapped a scoreless tie with her seventh goal of the season and that's all the No. 8-ranked (NCCAA) Mid-America Christian Lady Evangels would need to defeat the Rogers State Hillcats 1-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference regular season finale Tuesday afternoon (Nov. 2).
The victory assures the Lady Evangels of hosting at least the quarterfinals of the SAC postseason tournament on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 6) at 2 p.m. The opponent is yet to be determined.
Whalen's score came off a feed from Julia Nimal after Nimal's shot bounced off the keeper at the 56:05 mark of the second half.
The match was intense and competitive throughout, with MACU out-shooting the Hillcats by the slimmest of margins, 16-15 overall.
The Lady Evangels (15-2-1, 8-2-1 SAC) held a 9-4 edge in shots-on-goal.
Nimal had a match-high seven shots and four shots-on-goal to lead the Lady Evangels, while Tiffany Roberts led the Hillcats with four shots.
Three-time SAC Defensive Player of the Week Melissa Dobie made four saves in recording her 10th shutout of the season.
