Oklahoma City, Okla. -- A goal by Margaret Lee just one minute into the second half snapped a 2-2 tie and propelled the No. 14-ranked Oklahoma City University Stars to a 3-2 win over the Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels in a Sooner Athletic Conference matchup Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 25) at Evangel Field. The loss is the Lady Evangels first at home since losing the NCCAA Central Regional final to Dallas Baptist in 2009.
Things began on a high note for the Lady Evangels as
Kassie Byrd scored the first of her two goals by putting in a wide open look from the right side just 34 seconds into the match.
OCU answered back when Allie Glazner assisted on a corner kick to Sheridan Horner at the 31:28 mark to even the match at 1-1.
Glazner then got into the scoring act herself by bouncing in a shot off the crossbar just four minutes later to put the Stars on top (13-1-1, 8-1-1 SAC).
Byrd squared the match again with her second goal when she gained possession off a deflection in the box and scored at the 40:10 mark.
Lee's game-winning goal for OCU came at the 46:05 mark off an assist from Megan McMahon.
Byrd had a team-high four shots for the Lady Evangels (11-4-1, 6-3-1 SAC) and Blerta Rashica recorded a match-high 11 shots to pace the Stars.
MACU stayed in the match despite OCU holding a whopping 29-12 edge in shots overall and a 14-8 edge in shots-on-goal.
Melissa Dobie made 11 saves in the net for the Lady Evangels, while Alissa Reed stopped six shots for OCU.
The Lady Evangels will wrap up the regular season portion of their schedule at No. 23-ranked Southern Nazarene on Friday night (Oct. 28) at 6 p.m. in Bethany, Okla.
