Oklahoma City, Okla. -- A trio of juniors in goalkeeper
Melissa Dobie and forwards
Kassie Byrd and Julia Nimal have earned first-team All-Sooner Athletic Conference honors, while senior defenders
Nicole Farquhar and Lindsey Stephenson are second-team selections, the league announced late Friday night (Nov. 11).
Nimal set the school's point record since joining the NAIA with 38 on 14 goals and a team-high 10 assists. Nimal's 38 points rank fourth in the SAC, while Byrd's 36 points are fifth. Byrd led the Lady Evangels with 17 goals and also dished out two assists this season.
Dobie's 110 saves tied her for first in the SAC and she was also second in the league in shutouts (eight) and fifth in goals-against-average (1.20). She has now recorded 19 shutouts over the past two seasons, tops in the conference.
Farquhar and Stephenson were each key components in those eight shutouts this year, playing consistently solid defense. Farquhar even contributed offensively with three goals and one assist.
The Lady Evangels finished the regular season 11-5-1 overall and 6-4-1 in the SAC, before losing a heartbreaking 1-0 loss in double-overtime to eventual SAC tournament champion USAO in the conference quarterfinals.
MACU is now gearing up for the National Christian College Athletic Association Central Regional tourney this week (Nov. 17-19) at Dallas Baptist University.
