OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Wayland Baptist Pioneers struck for a goal just 29 seconds into the match and made it stand the rest of the way for a 1-0 win over the Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels in Sooner Athletic Conference action Thursday afternoon (Oct. 18) at MACU Soccer Field.

Jessica Bell scored the goal for the Pioneers (8-6-1, 2-3-1 SAC) after the ball went off a defender's foot, bounced in the middle and in prime position for Bell to find the net.

From there, the Lady Evangels (7-7, 2-3 SAC) couldn't crack the scoreboard despite out-shooting the Pioneers 16-11 overall.  WBU held a slim 8-7 edge in shots-on-goal.

The Lady Evangels were led by Chelsea Swisher's six shots and three on-goal.  Julia Nimal tallied five shots and Kassie Byrd had four shot-attempts.

Three Pioneers led the way with two shots apiece.  MACU goalkeeper Melissa Dobie stopped eight shots, while Courtney Chambers made seven saves for WBU.

The Lady Evangels will next celebrate Senior Day on Saturday morning (Oct. 20) at 11 a.m. against Lubbock Christian University.
