OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels knocked off the Bethel College Threshers 3-0 in non-conference action Friday afternoon (Aug. 31) at MACU Soccer Field.
The Lady Evangels dominated the match throughout, recording a whopping 45 shot-attempts to only three for the Threshers. But MACU was limited to only the three goals thanks to a stellar effort in the net by goalkeeper Madison Wiles, who stopped 24 shots. The 24 saves tie her for the 10th most in NAIA history.
Julia Nimal got the Lady Evangels (2-1) on the board three minutes into the contest by angling in a shot from 20 yards out.
Nimal then gave the Lady Evangels some breathing room by finding
Chelsea Swisher with a cross to the middle of the box five minutes into the second half.
Kassie Byrd finished things off for MACU by scoring off a deflection by Wiles at the 62:51 mark.
MACU goalkeeper
Melissa Dobie wasn't nearly as busy in the net as Wiles was, but stopped the only two shots on-goal by the Threshers in recording her second shutout of the season and 22nd of her career.
Byrd led the Lady Evangels with 13 shots and seven shots-on-goal, while Swisher tallied nine shots and also had seven shots-on-goal.
The Lady Evangels will next be in action next Friday night (Sept. 7) at Ottawa University at 7 p.m. in Ottawa, Kan.
