Women's Soccer Welcomes Goalkeeper Kaitlyn Whitten for next Season

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Mid-America Christian University women's soccer program has added goalkeeper Kaitlyn Whitten for the upcoming 2013 season.  Whitten comes to MACU as a transfer from former Sooner Athletic Conference rival Oklahoma Christian University.

Whitten redshirted last season at OC but played in 13 matches as a freshman during the 2011 season.

Despite playing in only 13 games, Whitten still ranked seventh in the Sooner Athletic Conference in saves per game (4.92) and also finished seventh in the league in goals-against-average (1.33).

The Houston, Texas native was a four-year starter for the Spring Woods High School Tigers, becoming the first female soccer player in school history to sign to play at the University level.

Whitten led the Tigers to the Area playoffs for the first time in 25 years and was voted Team MVP for the 2011 season.  She was a four-time All-District first-team performer and was named the All-District 4A MVP Goalkeeper for both the 2010 and 2011 seasons.

She also was a four-year starter for the Spring Woods Volleyball squad, with the last two years coming on the varsity team.  She was selected as a team captain and was named the Team MVP for the Volleyball Tigers in the 2011 campaign.

A solid student-athlete, Whitten earned an Academic All-District selection in Soccer in 2010 and in volleyball for both the 2010 and 2011 seasons.  She was also an Academic All-State honoree in volleyball in 2010 & 2011.

"I am very excited to have Kaitlyn join the program and we are expecting her to be a huge asset," MACU Co-Women's Soccer Head Coach Zach Bice said.

She is the daughter of Don and Cyndi Whitten and has been an active member of Tallowood Baptist Church since the age of nine.  She plans to major in History Education at MACU.
