Lady Evangels Punch First Ever Ticket to NCCAA National Tournament with 2-0 Win Over Colorado Christian

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels weathered muddy and soggy playing conditions to capture the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Central Regional championship with a 2-0 victory over the Colorado Christian University Cougars today (Nov. 22) at MACU Soccer Field.

With their first-ever NCCAA National Tournament berth at hand, not even consistent downpours of rain could dampen the Lady Evangels' enthusiasm.

Both of the Lady Evangels' goals came in the first half, beginning with Cici Mitchell converting a free kick into a score at the 16:58 mark.

Alex Macias then put in an improbable score in the 28th minute by kicking from beyond the midfield strike but managing to bounce it over the goalkeeper's head and into the net for a 2-0 lead.

That's all the Lady Evangels (13-6) would need as Kaitlyn Whitten made four saves to close out the win.

Haley Lowe made eight saves in the net for the Cougars (5-12-3).

MACU out-shot the Cougars 20-11 overall and 10-5 on-goal, led by Karla Cabello's match-high six shot attempts.

The Lady Evangels will now gear up for the NCCAA National Tournament, which will be held Dec. 1-6 at Austin-Tindall Soccer Complex in Kissimmee, Fla.
