Lady Evangels Tripped Up 2-0 to Shorter University at NCCAA National Tournament

Kissimmee, Fla. -- Cintia Lamas scored two goals and that's all the Shorter University Lady Hawks needed to defeat the Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels 2-0 today (Dec.2) at the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Women's Soccer National Tournament at the Austin-Tindall Soccer Complex in Kissimmee, Fla.

Lamas' first goal came early in the first half off an assist from Taylor Hendrix at the 13:02 mark.

The Lady Hawks kept that 1-0 lead until Lamas struck again, this time from the top of the box in the 65th minute.

The Lady Evangels (13-7) couldn't get on the board despite mustering 15 shot attempts and seven shots-on-goal.

Shorter (14-9), an NCAA D-II school out of the Gulf South Conference, out-shot the Lady Evangels 20-15 overall and 11-7 on-goal.

Chelsea Swisher and Cici Mitchell each led the Lady Evangels with five shots and Hendrix had a match-high six shots for Shorter.

Kaitlyn Whitten made nine saves in the net for MACU, while Alden Powell stopped seven shots for the Lady Hawks.

The Lady Evangels will wrap up pool play tomorrow afternoon (Dec. 3) against top-seeded Grace College at 1 p.m. (CST).
