Victoria, Texas -- After falling behind by two goals in the first half, the Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels exploded in the second half to rally and improve to 3-0 on the season with a 4-3 victory over the LSU-Alexandria Generals today (Sept. 6) on the campus of the University of Houston-Victoria in Victoria, Texas.
The Generals got off to the hot start thanks to two goals by Kalli Vollmer in the opening half.
It was six minutes into the second half when Chelsea Swisher and Karla Cabello went to work for the Lady Evangels.
Swisher tied the score with two goals in the 51st and 68th minute before Cabello struck for two scores just a minute apart in the 71st and 72nd minute to suddenly make it 4-2. Cabello also assisted on Swisher's tying-goal at the 68:49 mark.
The frentic scoring continued when Shannon Blailock scored just a minute after Cabello's second goal to bring the Generals within 4-3, but the Lady Evangels held on from there for the win.
Kaitlyn Whitten and Taylor Files each made two saves in the net for the Lady Evangels, while Emily Gilenz stopped four shots for the Generals.
The shots reflected how close of how close the match was, as the Generals held a slim 12-11 edge in overall shots and 8-7 in shots-on-goal.
In the two victories this weekend, Swisher and Cabello combined for all seven goals for the Lady Evangels.
The Lady Evangels will look to continue their hot start next Saturday afternoon (Sept. 13) at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kan.
