OKLAHOMA CITY -- Mid-America Christian University senior goalkeeper Kaitlyn Whitten has been named the Sooner Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced today (Oct. 12).
The Houston, Texas was dominant in the net in two matches this week for the Lady Evangels, helping the squad extend their unbeaten streak to four games and move above the .500 mark for the first time this season.
Whitten made 15 saves in the two outings, including 11 stops in a 1-0 victory over Texas Wesleyan University last Tuesday (Oct. 6). Her 11 saves featured a game-saving stop in the box with 7:34 remaining to preserve the shutout win.
She then made four more saves as the Lady Evangels tied 1-1 at Wayland Baptist University on Saturday (Oct. 10).
Whitten is currently first in the SAC in saves (58) and fourth in goals-against-average (1.31).
Whitten and the Lady Evangels (5-4-1, 2-0-1 SAC) will next play at Oklahoma City University tomorrow evening (Oct. 13) at 5 p.m.
