OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels blanked the St. Gregory's University Cavaliers today (Oct. 30) 2-0 on a wet and rainy Senior Day at MACU Soccer Field.
With the victory, the Lady Evangels remain in contention for the fourth seed and a home match in the upcoming Sooner Athletic Conference tournament. If Southwestern Christian University wins tomorrow (Oct. 31) at Wayland Baptist University, the Evangels will move up to the fourth spot and host a first-round game. If WBU wins over SCU, the Lady Evangels will be the fifth seed and begin the SAC tourney on the road.
It was a big day for senior Cici Mitchell, as Mitchell assisted on a goal that Taylor Moseley headed in from the left of the box off a deflection at the 23:17 mark of the first half.
Mitchell then put in a penalty kick five minutes into the second half to finish out the scoring.
That's all Kaitlyn Whitten would need to record her fourth shutout of the season. Whitten stopped three shots on the day, while Jena Flewelling was busy in the net in making 10 saves for the Cavaliers (6-10, 1-7 SAC).
Regardless of what happens tomorrow and where they wind up in the SAC, the Lady Evangels have made quite a turnaround in rebounding from an 0-3 start to their current mark of 8-7-1 overall and 5-3-1 in the league.
