OKLAHOMA CITY – The Mid-America Christian University women's soccer team tallied at least one goal in each of their first 10 matches during the 2017 campaign, and on Tuesday evening, the Lady Evangels headed into downtown Oklahoma City to take on the Oklahoma City University Stars in Sooner Athletic Conference play. Unfortunately for the Lady Evangels, they were unable to continue that streak as they dropped their second SAC match.
Oklahoma City (7-4-1, 3-2-1 SAC) scored in the 26th minute to take the lead, and they added a pair of second half insurance goals to hand MACU (8-3, 3-2 SAC) the 3-0 defeat.
OCU's Bailey Webb broke the ice in the 26th minute, but the Evangels recovered to keep the match at 1-0 heading into the half. MACU had a couple of early chances in the second stanza, but they were unable to convert, and in the 64th minute, Natalie Speer made it 2-0. OCU added a second insurance tally off the foot of Sara Ricks – a shot which MACU goalkeeper Jennifer Starwalt nearly saved – to make it 3-0 in the 75th minute, and Oklahoma City closed it out and took the 3-0 win.
MACU was held to four shots in the match, putting two of them on frame. Starwalt (6-2) made three saves in the loss, while Kirsten Thomas made a pair of saves for OCU in the shutout victory.
MACU will wrap up their 2017 road schedule on Saturday afternoon, heading to nearby Bethany, Oklahoma to take on the Southwestern Christian University Eagles (4-10, 1-6 SAC) on Saturday afternoon. The match is scheduled for a Noon kickoff.
